Dr. Elizabeth Linch Feely, 93, of Atlanta passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. Elizabeth Linch was born on November 26, 1924, to parents David Lewis Linch and Eleanor Sanders Linch. She was raised in Eatonton, Georgia, where she attended Eatonton Public Schools. Elizabeth went on to earn her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia, ultimately earning her Doctor of Education. While a student there, she was selected for several honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi.
Elizabeth enjoyed a long and accomplished career in education. A long-time employee of the Atlanta Public Schools (APS), she retired as Area III Superintendent of APS in 1989. In this role, she was responsible for 26 schools. Over the course of her career, Elizabeth also served as an adjunct professor at three different colleges. She was chosen to serve on the Friendship Force to Brazil during President Jimmy Carter's administration.
A patron of the arts and an involved member of her community, Elizabeth was a charter member of the High Museum. She subscribed to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and attended the first season the orchestra was housed in Symphony Hall and every year thereafter. Elizabeth also was a member of the Atlanta Botanical Garden from the time the organization first met in the double-wide all those years ago.
A member of the Ansley Park Civic Association, Elizabeth was an active participant of the Ansley Park Book Club since it began nearly four decades ago. She also enjoyed participating in the Poetry Out Loud club and a mystery book club, among other book clubs. Elizabeth served on the Board of Directors at Colony House East for 10 years. A keen bridge player, she earned Life Master status of the American Contract Bridge League.
Elizabeth also was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta.
A tireless advocate, Elizabeth was passionate about protecting the rights of others. She felt that all children should have the opportunity to receive a good education. During her tenure with the Atlanta Public Schools, she provided leadership and guidance throughout the civil rights movement, white flight, and the Atlanta Child Murders.
Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Lois Oakley (Ebb) and Beth Stanford; grandchildren Alden Oakley, Blair Oakley Wood (Zac), John Stanford (Anne), and Molly Stanford Hudson (Richard); as well as six great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
She is predeceased by her parents, David and Eleanor Linch, and son-in-law Johnny Stanford. What a wonderful lady she was. I worked with her about 5 years at Lenbrook before she passed and it was a honor to be with her in her final moments. She had a great impact on my life and will be greatly missed. May you rest in eternal peace Lizzy! Love always, Cupid

Dr. Feels was a force in the APS system and in the greater Atlanta community. Her loss will be felt whether we knew her from the education sector, the arts, the sciences or through civil activities. Like her friends and family, which are innumerable in the greater Atlanta area, God will definitely remember her good works.
I hope others will exhibit the same drive for excellence she did. They too will be blessed as she was (Jeremiah 17:7). What a wonderful example for us all.
