S. Windham – Elizabeth Valerie Phillips Allen was born in Malden, MA on July 9, 1925. She graduated from Melrose High School in Melrose, MA in 1943. She worked at the John Hancock Ins. Co. in Boston, MA and in several department stores. She was a volunteer at the U.S.O. in Boston during WWII.

On October 28, 1950 she married Jack B. Allen. Their son Mark Steven Allen was born on August 24, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN. while Jack was finishing studies for his B.A.E. degree.

Everyone knew her as "Betty" and she and Jack moved to Windham, CT where they built there house in S. Windham. Betty worked as a cook manager in Windham High School and taught in the adult evening night school as a ceramic teacher. She was a lecturer for the local Grange and a volunteer at McSweeney Adult Center in Willimantic. She taught Sunday School in her high school days and was secretary of the Sunday School in later life. She has also been a Cub and Girl Scout leader. She and Jack had camping for Sunday School children in the lower part of their property for a few weeks in the summer and Betty cooked all their meals.

Jack built a working miniature circus that Betty and he operated and it was shown to many audiences from 1971 to 1990.

Betty has 4 grandchildren, 2 boys and 2 girls. She had a wonderful smile and great sense of humor. Her final years were spent in Douglas Manor in Windham. We'll all miss her.
