Elizabeth James Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2013.

Betty was born to Lester and Margaret Bill May 3, 1916 in Portland, Oregon and died on April 22, 2013 in Eugene, OR., with her three daughters by her side. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland, OR. She loved to sing and was an accomplished pianist, playing for many events. Betty married Jesse James "the bandit who stole her heart" and they lived in Portland till 1951 when they moved to Seattle. In 1956 they moved to Vuecrest in Bellevue where she lived for over 40 years.

At the age of 40 she started working with Jesse in the car business, where she did the books and charmed the customers with her delightful personality. She retired after his death in 1986. They loved to entertain and holidays were always lovely events with family, friends and with those who had no place to go. Betty was an active member of the LDS Bellevue 1st Ward and might be remembered there for the many years she sang in the choir.

Family was most important to her and she was loving and caring to all and cherished by all as well. Her favorite quote of many was "you are never fully dressed without a smile".

She is survived by her four children, Barry James (Treva) of Prior Lake, Mn., Beverly Miller (Pi) of Kenmore, WA., Kathleen Wallace(Steve) of Eugene, OR., Cynthia Engle of Eugene, OR. and eighteen grandchildren along with 27 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Sunset Hills Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday May 3rd from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with Funeral Services on Saturday May 4 at 9:30a.m.
The address is at 1215 145th Pl. SE. Bellevue, WA. 98007 Phone# (425)746-1400

Jeff, Jennifer, & Noelle Crawford

Betty was a warm, loving woman with a big smile and kind word for everyone she met. She exuded class, charm, and charisma and nearly always wore a Hawaiian-style flower in her hair.

I recently had the good fortune to marry one of Betty's granddaughters, Jennifer. We visited "Grandma James" in Eugene in January last year and she was truly a gem: funny, engaging, and sincere. She still had a mischievous twinkle in her eye and her warmth and wit were on full display.

Betty's spirit lives on in her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and in the many people whose lives she touched.
