Elizabeth "Betty" (Monk) McGlocklin, born on January 27,1930 and entered into rest on April 22,2014.

Betty, at the age of 84, passed away at home with her daughters Vivian and Janet and Horizon Hospice attending her needs. She died from complications of Cancer that was diagnosed 18 years ago. What she did after that diagnosis has amazed many. She told everyone that would listen that the biopsy was only scar tissue from a previous surgery. Then, for the next 13 years, she did not see a doctor or seek treatment. Instead, she went with her sister on an extended vacation to Australia. Another trip with her sister to deliver a motor home to New York took them through Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Edmonton and Niagara Falls. The return took them to Gettysburg, Nebraska and Colorado to see their brother before returning home. She also made numerous trips through Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and to Branson, Missouri. For her last trip, she bought a van she really couldn't afford, and, at 78, drove with her older sister up the Canadian Alaskan Highway to Fairbanks.

Betty was born in Kearney, Nebraska, January 27, 1930 to Leslie and Laura (Wilson) Monk. Leslie, widowed with 4 children, made Betty number 5 of 8. Moving from the 30's dust bowl to Cheyenne, Wyoming and then Elmira, Idaho, she attended and graduated from the one room Elmira Elementary School. She worked summers as camp cook for her dad who logged the Grouse Creek area. She also waitressed at the Elmira Cafe in her upper teens.
She met Gene McGlocklin at a dance in Naples, Idaho around October 1948, and married him the following spring. Gene drove milk truck for his dad at that time, but soon had a job with Helffries Freight Line in Spokane. Soon, they moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where she raised her 5 children in. There, she waitressed at the 3 Mile Cafe, square danced, and volunteered at the PTA Mt. Hall and in 4-H.

Moving to Spokane in 1970, she waitressed at the Skaggs Pharmacy Dinner in the Spokane Valley and later owned and ran Crestline Laundry.
After retiring (and discovering/forgetting she had cancer), she worked as a caregiver for another 20 years. Betty always loved helping and being with people. She could and would talk to anyone and made them feel comfortable wherever she was. The only friends she did not have were the people she had not met.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Douglas. She is survived by sisters and traveling companions Lois Jorgensen of Aumsville, Oregon and DeLoyce Easley of Spanaway, Washington, Sons, Larry and Chuck (Amy), daughters Vivian (Dwight) Pauley and Janet, all of Spokane plus 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA and funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 A.M in the funeral homes, Colonial Chapel. Burial will be on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 12 noon at the Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry, ID.
