Ella Berg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2017.

Ella Belle Berg
July 26, 1928 – Aug. 25, 2017
Ella will be remembered as a caregiver who lived her life to give to others. She was born on July 26, 1928 to Earl and Helen DeRusha in Choteau Montana, yet she spent most of her life in Spokane, Washington. On Sept. 11, 1948, she married the love of her life, Jack Berg. For many years she worked in the family business, Berg's Junior Shoes. She patiently and lovingly raised five boys. She adored them as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family spent their summers at Loon Lake and Christina Lake. Daily swims and celebrating with food and drink created lifelong memories. Jack and Ella traveled the world, loved to read and entertain, and enjoyed time with friends and holidays with family. She was athletic and fiercely competitive, challenging her opponents to card games such as Gin Rummy and Bridge and was always the most desired partner. Many of us have lost one of the most special, Influential people in our lifetime. Love will live on in our hearts and memories. There will be a Celebration of Life /Open House on Sat. Sept. 16 at Rock City Grill on 2911 E. 57th from 11 to 2. The family requests that any remembrances be made to the Salvation Army, Vanessa Behan Nursery, Saving the Children or a charity of your choice.

Thinking of you Philip on this hearing this sad news. She must have been wonderful to have raised such a wonderful son.

I enjoyed visiting with Ella through the years. She was such a good friend to my mother, Gladys Brooks. I will aways appreciate that.
Jack, Philip and Ella shared many lake Christina times with our son, Paul.
She will be missed.

Ella has been our neighbor for over a decade. We could not have asked for a better neighbor. She has loved our kids and was a wise listening ear when they were not so lovable. We've exchanged vegetables, gifts and news over the fence. She is already missed.

The news of Ella's passing ushered a flood of amazing memories of time spent with Jack, Ella and Philip. Ella and my maternal grandmother, Gladys Brooks, were friends which meant that Philip and I became fast friends as well. I regret that I will be unable to attend the celebration of her life/open house on September 16th but wanted to express my heartfelt condolences to the family and pray that God will fill you with the peace that surpasses all understanding -- that it will truly guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

I will remember with gratitude the times spent with Ella and Philip walking through Riverfront Part -- picking up Jack at lunchtime at Berg's Jr. Shoes walking to Domini's for lunch -- the popcorn and sandwiches with meat piled high! I will remember trips to Christian Lake -- the fishing -- the skiing and swimming -- the card playing -- my first airplane flight with Jack -- learning to shoot a .22 -- highlights of my growing up years. I will remember spending time in their home; the sleep overs, the hospitality, the food, the fun.

College, career and family drew me away, as changing seasons in life do, I have no doubt that should our paths have crossed I would have been welcomed back into the fold like a member of the family.

Ella you will be missed -- I thank God for you and how he used you to bless me time and time again.

Peace,
Paul Schroeder
