Ella Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 27, 2011.

Ella Anderson was born in Kramer, ND, the youngest of the twelve children of Emanuel Brodehl and Christina Brandt Brodehl. She grew up in a large extended family. Ella married Arthur Anderson at Upham, ND in June 1940. They had been married 61 years when he died in 2001.
They came to Spokane where Arthur went to work at Galena Army Air Depot. In 1949 they bought a small farm on Piper Road just North of Spokane. Ella loved the farm. She planted fruit trees, and each year for 51 years she planted a large kitchen garden. She always had produce to give to family and friends. Every summer people waited for her fresh corn. Even after they moved to Upton Street and then to Lilac Plaza, she kept a small garden and shared what she raised. When Arthur and Ella came to Spokane they joined Faith Lutheran Church of the Deaf. They each gave their time and talents to the church. Ella sewed sets of altar cloths and Arthur built the altar on which the cloths were draped. Ella cooked and baked for church potlucks, Mission Festivals and coffee hours. Her homemade rolls were very popular. On special Sundays she would get up early to make fresh apple pies. She said they were "better that way".
Ella is survived by son, Loren Anderson of Portland, OR; daughter, Karen Nyback (Alfred) of Eagle River, AK; grandson, Todd Nyback and granddaughter, Nancy Pounds (Peter), and great grandsons, Luke Pounds and Andrew Pounds all of Anchorage, AK; daughter, Janice Panknin of Phoenix, AZ; and granddaughter, Melanie Panknin of Spokane. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, and numerous friends. Ella spent her last two years at Clare Bridge Assisted Living.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Faith Lutheran Church of the Deaf, 2733 W. Northwest Blvd. in Spokane. Arrangements entrusted to HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST.
