"Tootie"
Elleen Celia Hall Denahy
September 5, 1924 ~ September 22, 2012

Pacific Grove ~ Elleen "Tootie" Denahy was born in Marshfield, WI, but moved west and grew up in Los Angeles, CA. A graduate of Dorsey High School and UCLA, she began her career as an education professional with Los Angeles city schools in 1948. Starting as a math teacher, she eventually became a counselor and, after earning her Master's Degree, a school psychologist and psychometrist. The highlight of her career was being recognized as one of the top school psychologists in California and being honored by Governor Jerry Brown at a ceremony in Sacramento in 1981.

Soon after that, Tootie retired and moved to Pacific Grove where she became very active in the local community. She volunteered at CHOMP and was a member of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Tootie also belonged to the Pan-Hellenic Society, Embroiderers Guild of America, Funsters, Delta Kappa Gamma, Questers, Cypress Garden Guild and Historic Garden Club. She was also a long-time member of the Church in the Forest. But mostly, she is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Tootie did what the very best people do: she set an example for those who follow.

Tootie is survived by her sons, Craig (Cathy) Williams of Valencia, CA and Dana (Marcia) Williams of Stockton, CA; her daughter, Karen (Peter) Locke of Santa Monica, CA; her grandchildren, Jenny, Nick, Maggie, Courtenay, Taylor, and Dexter; her great-grandchildren, Conner and Myles and also her beloved cat, George.

Services will be held at the Church of the Forest on Saturday, November 3 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to The Auxiliary of CHOMP, PO BOX HH, Monterey, CA 93942.

Tottie was the most pleasant lady in the world. She always had a smile or chuckle and was seldom flustered over anything. She was so gracious to me and always sent the right note of thanks, condolance or support. She will be truly missed.

Tootie personified grace and dignity, and always greeted her friends with a smile and a caring thought. I am proud to have been her Alpha Xi Delta sister and to have served with her on Panhellenic. She will be greatly missed. Condolences to Craig, Dana, Karen and their families.

We enjoyed sharing time with Tootie in the book club in Pacific Grove. She turned us on to many good books and always had wonderful family stories to share as well as her cookies. We are glad she was a part of our life. A caring , gracious individual.

What a beautiful lady! She always had a smile and hug for me whether at Delta Kappa Gamma functions, Panhellenic events, Funsters luncheons, or just getting our hair done on the same day. I will miss her.

I met Tootie as a member of both Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Monterey Bay National Panhellenic Council. She was always so gracious, and friendly, and willing to contribute in any way she could. It was always such a treat for me to attend functions at the Beach House due to Tootie's generosity. I will miss seeing her smile! My thoughts are with you.
Sincerely,
Pat Gotch

Tootie...The memory of her smile, gentleness, graciousness and kindness, will always remind me that my world was a better place because she was in it. She was an elegant LADY, the likes of which I rarely have the privilege to be in the company of. She was LOVE personified, an angel in disguise.

RIP beloved friend. Thank you for having enriched my life in so many ways.
