Obituary

Elmer Herbert (Herb) Bergton was born on September 6, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, New York. Herb passed away peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2014 at age 86. He lived with his grandparents in Grosseicholzheim, Germany from age 3 until age 8. He attended Scarsdale High School in New York. He joined the Navy in 1945 during WWII. He witnessed the Atomic Bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. His love of the seven seas continued throughout his lifetime. While still in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Eleanor. Elmer Herbert (Herb) Bergton was born on September 6, 1927 in Mt. Vernon, New York. Herb passed away peacefully on Sunday February 23, 2014 at age 86. He lived with his grandparents in Grosseicholzheim, Germany from age 3 until age 8. He attended Scarsdale High School in New York. He joined the Navy in 1945 during WWII. He witnessed the Atomic Bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. His love of the seven seas continued throughout his lifetime. While still in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Eleanor. They married in June 1952.
Herb applied his artistic skills to launch his career as an architectural and mechanical draftsman. He also used these skills in creating hand-crafted personalized bracelets that became quite popular here in Brevard County. He was recognized as a contributor to the Apollo 8-16, SkyLab and Space Shuttle programs. In 1976 he started his company, The Drafting Board, which provided drafting services to many local builders.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Bergton, 2 sons: John Bergton and Jim Bergton, 2 daughters: Carol Bergton (Terry Egan) and Liz Collett (Jim Collett); 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He will always be loved and remembered for his faith in God and devotion to his wife, life and family.
Visitation will be on Sunday March 2nd at 1:30 pm with a service at 2:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer located at 12 East Ave A. Melbourne, FL 32901.

Interment will follow service at Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in memory of Herb Bergton to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.
