Elmyra Taylor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2017.

Elmyra Lowery Taylor, 87, of Tampa, Florida, went home to her Lord and Savior on June 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. Elmyra’s family are fifth generation Tampa residents. Elmyra grew up in Port Tampa, as the youngest in a family with three older brothers. She was a devoted wife to her husband William "Bill" Taylor, a wonderful mother to her son Bud, and played a large role in raising her two beautiful granddaughters, Jacqueline and Haley.

Elmyra loved gardening, with her specialty being her rose garden. She was an avid sports fan and on any given night in her home, she would be watching the Rays, the Buccaneers or the Florida Gators. She was an active member of Van Dyke Methodist Church and a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in the Port Tampa Lodge. She loved anything sweet and enjoyed baking, especially for her family during the Christmas holiday season, and was famous for her date nut and Coca-Cola cakes.

Elmyra light up every room she walked into, never met a stranger, and had an infectious laugh. She made her mark on many hearts in this world. She will be forever missed and loved. Our loss is surely Heaven's gain. Elmyra is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Bill Taylor, mother Etta Lowery, father Raymond Lowery, and brothers Robert, Raymond and Bill Lowery. She is survived by her son William "Bud" Taylor and his wife Mindy, Granddaughter Jacqueline Carricato and her husband Aaron, Granddaughter Haley Pappalardo and her husband Andy, Great-grandchildren Ford and Taylor Carricato, Sister-in-Law Virginia Coston, Nieces Deb DeWitt, Deanna Voorhees, Ann Cale, Judy Lowery, Cathy Coston, Laura Johnson, Bobbie Wampler, Nephews Rob Lowery, Frank Lowery, John Stuckey, Clark Stuckey, Bob Cale and Jim Coston. A very special thanks from the family to Andrea Henry for all the friendship and support she gave Nana in the last years of her life.

Momma Taylor I didn't get a chance to meet you directly but I did meet your son Bud. Its been said that the fruit doesnt fall far from the tree.

Reading about your life and how you brought joy and life everywhere you went is a blessing and I can see where Bud gets it from. Thanks for making the eternal impact on your children, family and friends, because of your godly life and legacy I have been blessed to impact the next generation for Jesus in a major way.

To Bud the family and friends I pray Gods loving comfort and peace surround you as you mourn the passing and celebrate the life of Mrs Taylor.

"Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it." - Lou Holtz

Elmyra Taylor responded with enthusiasm and a laugh you couldn't help but share. Her personality transcended generations; she was adored by teens as well as her contemporaries.

You could count on her to keep a party lively and show up with a cake.

She worried about anything and everything, yet somehow made this an endearing quality.

I will miss the lunches and chats while sharing Coca-Cola. She was the best aunt a person could have and I will miss her like no other.

A toast to you, Aunt Sis; wherever you are is a better place for having you.
