Win (Elwin) Roy Gertlar, Jr., 1/18/1956-4/28/2012. Win passed away unexpectedly in his home in the Badger Pocket area, where he was with family and friends after a wonderful day of working in his garden.
Win was born in Pasco and went to high school in Grandview. He moved to Ellensburg six years ago.
He previously worked as a Forest Ranger at Shelton and was currently working for K.I.M. as a caregiver. During the concert season at the Gorge, Win could be found patrolling the campgrounds and returning with entertaining escapades about the events that occurred during his watch at the camps along the Columbia.
Win helped everyone he could and was always there if someone needed help. He made everyone smile, especially the children in his life.
Win loved to fish, work in the garden, listen to music and tell stories by the campfire.
A memorial service was held May 3rd in Toppinish.
As Win would say, "I'm not here for a long time, I'm just here for a good time". He will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank the heroic efforts of the volunteers and professionals who attempted to revive Win.
