Elza Zeps Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2015.

Elza Zeps, 102, passed away peacefully at home Monday, March 30, 2015, surrounded by her family. Per Elza's request no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 1001 East 101st Terrace, Suite # 180, Kansas City, MO 64131.
Elza was born September 26, 1912 in Prauliene, Latvia to Pauls and Emma Berkis. She was one of four children. She married Antons (Tony) Zeps September 14, 1941 and together they established a dairy farm in Prauliene, Latvia. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1949 and settled on a dairy farm in Springfield, MO. They later moved to Kansas City, MO, in 1951 where Elza worked for Betty Rose Coats and Suits until 1963. Elza and Tony took a position with the Good Samaritan Society in 1963 and eventually moved their family to Auburn, NE, where she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She retired in 1978 and together with Tony moved back to Kansas City in 1987. She loved her garden, especially her roses, lilacs and African violets. Most of all, she lived to care for her family. She loved to cook, being famous among her inner circle for her Latvian bacon buns and meatball soup.
Elza was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Tony, and her three siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Rivera; two grandsons, Ryan and Andrew (Rachel) Rivera, and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Gracie.
Elza's unconditional love for her family knew no boundaries. "Granny" and her beloved "Poppy" are now reunited in God's eternal love. God had truly blessed them.
