Emerson Heald Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2017.

Emerson Courser "Emmy" Heald, 89, of Bedford and formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on August 1st at Bentley Commons after a brief illness. He was born in Manchester on October 22, 1927 the son of Benjamin and Edith (Courser) Heald. He was a graduate of Simonds Free High School and the University of New Hampshire Thompson School of Agriculture.

Emerson was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean Conflict serving aboard the USS Bristol. He was a longtime resident of Auburn serving as their Chief of Police for over 25 years and was also a member of the Auburn Zoning Board. He was a deputy sheriff with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department. He also did some freelance work in advertising, circulation & photography for the Manchester Union Leader & NH Sunday News. You could find "Emmy" giving back to his community through his work as a 60 year Masonic Brother and past master of the Candia Lodge 76 and past president of the Manchester and Winnepesaukee Bektash Temple. He was a proud member of the Royal Order of Jesters and the Lions Club. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellow Award and the Auburn Historical Society. He was a communicant of the Longmeadow Congregational Church since 1950. Emmy lived life to the fullest always greeting you with a joke or two (for he never forgot any of them) and never failed to keep everyone laughing. He will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend.

He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Marion (Seavey) Heald, his grandson Kevin Charbonneau and his brother Alan Heald.

Members of his family include his wife Dorothy (Colin) Heald, his daughter Melody Charbonneau, his sons Kevin Heald and Emerson Heald, his two grandchildren Benjamin Heald and Sarah Heald, four stepchildren Judith Dorais, Joan Laroche, Jeff Rogers and Jean Forrence and their families as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of wonderful friends.

There were no calling hours. A Memorial Service was celebrated on Sunday August 13 at noon at the Longmeadow Congregation Church 4 Wilsons Crossing Rd. in Auburn followed by a Celebration of Life Reception in the church hall. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Emerson's name be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114. The family has entrusted the McHugh Funeral Home his care.

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most most money...or the most awards. They simply are the ones who care the most. Emerson was one who "cared." I was honored to know him for 60 years. Rest in Peace, Emmy.

Emmy was a "charmer" whose company was sought by so many. We are proud to have been numbered among those who relished his wry sense of humor. His work on behalf of Masonic and Shrine programs in New Hampshire is well documented and legendary. "Emmy" was truly one of a kind. To say he will be missed is to collectively agree the silence that comes with his passing will be deafening.
