Emil was born on the farm in Eatonia but raised on the farm north of Kipling, where he attended Grainview School for six years. In 1944 he married Martha Schock at St. Boswell's, Saskatchewan and began farming north of Kipling. In 1952, they moved their small but growing family into the town of Kipling where he began a draying business to supplement his farming income. This turned into a trucking business until he became the local Elevator Agent for N.M. Paterson & Sons Limited, for which he bought grain and sold fertilizer, chemicals, coal and other farm supplies until his retirement in 1985. During this period of employment, he developed a fine reputation as a man of integrity who was always willing to do whatever had to be done in order to accommodate the needs of his customers. In his retirement years, he enjoyed his garden, flowers and trees, and cultivated an amazing talent for woodworking on his lathe. He humbly served his community, his church and his family in many ways which will long be remembered by all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at First Free Methodist Church, 375 Hochelaga Street West, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, with Reverend Dwight Baron officiating. Interment in Highland Cemetery, Kipling, SK. on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.
