Emily Parnell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2018.

Our sweet mother and grandmother went peacefully to be with our Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2018. She was born in Chicago to parents who came from Czechoslovakia. Her father was a cobbler and her mother was a homemaker. They moved to West, Texas and she became a big sister to Vera. The story goes that in Corpus Christi, Texas the two girls and their mother would walk to the cobbler shop to bring their father lunch. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School and went to Del Mar Junior College. She married her sweetheart Joe and had three children. The family moved to Victoria, Texas where she raised her children and was very active at Grace Presbyterian Church. She went back to school when her youngest was in middle school. She got her masters in sociology from TWU. She maintained an A average while keeping the house running and working a full time job. The family moved to Houston where she worked at Big Brothers and Sisters in Houston and then ran the Volunteer Program at Cancer Information Center at MD Anderson. She was in service to others throughout her life. Her family was most important to her and so she loved sharing her love of adventure with them. She took her children on many adventures - safaris to Africa, a cruise to Alaska, the Cayman Islands, a Rhine River cruise and many family vacations to the Keys, Colorado and Texas. Her last years at Epworth Villa were spent volunteering in the market, making her ButtoNotes and introducing her children every chance she got. Her attitude was so positive it made everyone want to be around her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and Rudolph Troubil and her loving husband of 51 years Joseph W. Parnell. Surviving her are her sister, Vera T. Dexter (Phil) and her children, Kathy Berry, Joe Parnell, Jr. (Beth) and Mary Ann Doolen (Mark). Her grandchildren are J. W. Parnell, III (Deb), Jamee, Josh and Jacob (Laura) Boucher and Rachel and Matthew Berry. She was thrilled to know her great grandchildren, Layla Boucher and namesake Emily Ann Parnell.

My condolences for the lost of you mother. Andy passed away on the same day and month, but in 2014. I think of you all when I still read everyday from the book Jesus Calling that you gave Andy and I when he was ill. That book of devotions has help me everyday since.
Sincerely,
Eva Huizinga
