Emma “Lee” Choplin Turner, 89 of Independence, Missouri passed away August 17, 2014. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, August 21, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Independence, 500 West Truman Road, Independence, Missouri 64050. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Church. Burial will be private. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Independence or Groves Community Hospice. Lee was born February 16, 1925 on a farm outside La Monte, Missouri. Emma “Lee” Choplin Turner, 89 of Independence, Missouri passed away August 17, 2014. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church of Independence or Groves Community Hospice. Lee was born February 16, 1925 on a farm outside La Monte, Missouri. Her family moved to Independence, Missouri in 1926. She graduated Chrisman High School in 1942. Lee married Raymond F. Turner in 1947. Mr. Turner served in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked for the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. They had one child, Lee Ann Turner Emdee. In 1942, right out of high school, Lee went to work for Unity School and made a 60 year career there, retiring in July 2002. For the last 30 years at Unity, Lee was Executive Secretary to the Chairman of Unity – Charles R. Fillmore. She started attending First Baptist Church of Independence with her family at the age of one. She was baptized and maintained an active membership there for the next 88 years. Lee was a 42 year charter member of the Royal Ridge Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). She was named ABWA’s Greater Kansas City Area Woman of the year in 2010. She helped raise thousands of dollars for young women’s business education scholarships over the years. Lee is preceded in death by her mother - Flora Rissler Choplin, father – Adoniram Judson Choplin, infant brother – William Rissler Choplin, husband – Raymond Franklin Turner and cousin – Frances Rissler Hathaway. Lee is Survived by her daughter – Lee Ann Turner Emdee and son-in-law – Daniel G. Emdee of Oldsmar, Florida, cousins – Malinda Rissler Morris of Corona, California; Dr. Kelley Anne Hathaway Beuchat of Topeka, Kansas; and a niece – Alice Turner Sherwin of Beaverton, Oregon.
