Emmanuel was born on November 8, 1999 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was the son of Jose and step-mom, Kalinda Mercado and mom, Starr Flores. While some who knew Emmanuel might describe him as an idealist, his friends and family understood well that Emmanuel was always in pursuit of life’s endless possibilities and opportunities available to him.

Emmanuel was raised with four siblings. He had an older brother, Jose, two older sisters, Leslie and Liana and a younger brother, Kevin. Emmanuel was very accepting and supportive of his family. He was perceived as the central person in his family in terms of keeping communication open between the family members. Whenever discord or tension arose within the home, Emmanuel was typically the member who brought about resolution and harmony. These traits served Emmanuel well in his short life and, along with his wit, outgoing personality, and understanding of others, drew the admiration of many who knew him.

Emmanuel had the ability to empathize and identify with a vast array of people and personality types. This quality drew him into a diverse group of friends and acquaintances. Emmanuel was intelligent and had little trouble getting along with his peers. He was almost always the first to jump in when it came to playing games or participating in other childhood activities. Emmanuel took part in football and soccer. He was an artist and enjoyed building legos and playing outside. In his spare time he liked swimming in their backyard pool. Emmanuel's memorable achievements included being a great student and learning how to swim. Emmanuel had the ability to find amusement with almost any activity he and the many childhood friends he shared might discover.

Emmanuel was a boy dedicated and devoted to his faith. He was a member of St. Joseph Husband of Mary Roman Catholic Church.

Though he never did anything solely for individual recognition, Emmanuel's ingenuity, resourcefulness, and selflessness, earned him accolades for his many efforts. Some of his most prestigious awards included being Master of Kindergarten, Student of the Month, and perfect attendance.

Emmanuel's love of improvising in his daily life was a perfect fit for his enjoyment of traveling. Favorite vacations included Cancun, Cabo, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, Disneyland, the zoo, and Soak City.

Emmanuel was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. Baca, a Chiwawa dog, was his best friend for 4 years. His family was rounded out by his turtles, hermit crab, chickens, dogs and a bird.

There was always a certain style and inventiveness to Emmanuel. He was a dynamic, self-expressive boy who was forever looking to celebrate the endless possibilities life had to offer. He had a knack for being clever, creative and witty, and for others, was a joy to be around.
