Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 25, 2013.

Emmanuele "Pete" Azzopardi, loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on November 23, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Gozo, Malta on January 3, 1931 to Thomas and Carmen, the fifth of nine children.

He came to the United States in 1950 and enlisted in the Air Force. During his 26 years of service he met and married Sonia Ruzic and had four children, Thomas, Marisol, Carmen and Peter.

Family, his faith and a simple life was what he valued; fishing and fixing anything was what he enjoyed.

In addition to his beloved wife of 56 years and his kids, he leaves behind to cherish his memories, son-in-law Ron Nethken; daughters-in-law Laura, Tanya and Christy; his precious grandchildren David, Lynnie, Danny, Branden, Andre, Madisyn, Jayden, Marissa, Avery and Evan; his beautiful great-grandchildren Cheyenne and Paige; siblings Grezju, Carmen, Pauline and Tommy; as well as many wonderful cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

A service and mass is scheduled for Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2:00pm at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 North Logan Avenue, Colorado Springs. Private burial will take place at Memorial Gardens in Colorado Springs.

Pete was a fine gentleman and a true asset to the Catholic Center at the Citadel where he served as a sacristan for many years. He always had a good word for everyone. He was always positive and a friend to everyone who knew him. He will be missed.

I am so blessed to have spent the last three years with "Papa". It is an honor to have given him his great grand daughter, Paige. Without him I would not have the huge loving family I have and know today. Rest in Peace Papa! With Love- your dearest Hershey
