Erik August Igel, 28, passed away on June 13, 2017 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born September 5, 1988 in Mobile, Alabama. Erik attended and graduated from North Florida School Of Special Education. Erik loved attending church at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and loved going on outings with friends and family. He was a loyal and avid Jaguars fan! He was a core member at an Angelwood Group home where he enjoyed the love and companionship of his house family and Angelwood staff. Special thanks to them for the loving care they provided to Erik. He enriched the lives of those who knew him with his sense of humor and positive attitude.
Erik is preceded in death by his beloved Grandmother, Patricia Marcil, of Omaha, Nebraska. He is survived by and will be deeply missed by his family from Ponte Vedra Beach, including his father and mother, Todd and Amy Igel; his brother, Daniel; and his sister, Grace. He is also survived by his Grandparents, Don and Jean Igel of Omaha, Nebraska; and his Grandfather, Albert Marcil of Omaha, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday, June 16, 2017 from 5 to 7:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home ~ Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (main church-chapel), 11757 Old St. Augustine Rd., Jacksonville, Florida 32258 on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Angelwood, North Florida School of Special Education or St Joseph's Catholic Church of Mandarin.

Dear Todd, Amy, Daniel and Grace, We were only privileged to know Eric when he would visit us down the street while we kept our grandchildren, but we had great times with him and looked forward to him coming to the door. Joel and Ashley and their children are out of town, but we want you to know that even though we did not see you often, you so deeply touched our hearts. During the time that I worked for Dr. Igel it was always and unexpected pleasure when Erik called to chat. He was always happy and full of stories to tell. He enjoyed life with his family and friends. Although I have not talked to him for about 2 years I have thought of him often.

I am so sorry. Erik had so much love and joy in his heart and I am so blessed to have witnessed that pure love and the impact it had on others, myself included. I will never forget sharing a meal at a restaurant and when the server placed Erik's meal in front of him, Erik looked at the young man and said thank you - and I was awed because it was such a powerful, sincere, heart felt expression and I knew I had witnessed something sacred. From the server's reaction he felt it too. Thank you Erik for enriching my life. My love to you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
