Erika Dosch Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2017.

Erika Dosch (nee Maier) left us suddenly on August 4, 2017. She was born November 18, 1934 in Schoba Kreis Eger, Germany to Adolf and Emma Maier. She followed the love of her life, Anton, to America and the two married September 8, 1956.

Erika was a mighty, remarkable, feisty, funny, loving, strong, independent, and proud powerhouse of a woman. She embodied what it meant to be alive. Whether she was tending her garden, walking around her neighborhood, cooking goulash, telling vivid stories, laughing, singing, dancing, caring for friends and family, or savoring a glass of Merlot, Erika did it all with gusto. She was always in motion, the life of every party, and the heart and backbone of her family.

A force to be reckoned with, her resilient perseverance carried her as she lived her monumental life.
It was impossible to encounter Erika and not be charmed and enriched.

Erika took pride in her work as a clothing sales associate for Wanamakers in Yonkers, NY, as well as Jones New York in Woodbury Common. She was a devout member of her church and community through the Catholic Daughters of America, Court of St. Anne Mother of Mary, as well as the Red Hatters Club.

A fiercely devoted and doting wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and friend, Erika lives on through a multitude of people. She is survived by her children Robert & wife Peggy, Gary & wife Denise, and Richard & wife Anne Marie; grandchildren Christine, Robert & wife Allie, Emily, Brittany, and Cody; her brother Ernst & wife Maria; sister-in-law Laura; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Germany.

Erika is predeceased by her beloved husband Anton, infant granddaughter Erin Elizabeth, brother Erich, and her parents.
Visitation will be Thursday August 10, 4-8pm at the David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, NY, Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday August 11, and 9:30am at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, NY, Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery 2Fr. Tierney Circle, Washingtonville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. To leave an online condolence please visit www.davidtfergusonfh.com

I've only had the privilege of attending a few family events with Erika, but have memories that will last a lifetime. She was a beautiful, sweet, petite German lady with a personality that was larger than life. I've never met someone who loved and savored life more than her! Josh was so sad to learn of her passing and remembers her as "the fun one". To my dear family, our sincere and heartfelt condolences. Our hearts are with you and we send prayers, love, and hugs to you all from Virginia.
