Ernest R. (Boscoe) Godfrey Jr., 61, of Birmingham, AL, departed this life Saturday, June 6, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Marguerite Godfrey. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Vicki; his children, Graham and Brigham; and his sisters, Jan Struebing and Christa Warden. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 13 at Ridout's Valley Chapel, 1800 Oxmoor Rd, Homewood, AL 35209. A reception will follow at the same location.
Known to everyone as Boscoe, he was born July 18, 1953 in Rogers, Arkansas where he grew up. He was an Eagle Scout, enjoyed basketball, and was the Senior Class President at Rogers High School where he graduated in 1971.He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at The University of Arkansas at Fayettteville. Boscoe graduated from The University of Arkansas Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy in 1979. During his career Boscoe maintained management positions with Owen Healthcare, Principle Pharmacy Group, and Comprehensive Pharmacy Services for the past 34 years. His final position was Divisional Vice President at CPS serving as a leader and mentor to his colleagues.
Boscoe was a man of many interest and talents; he was a true Renaissance man. He was an avid marksman, firearms enthusiast, and skilled gardener. He spent many of his weekends at one of the various gun clubs of which he was a member, competing or just shooting for fun. His most recently acquired interest was running in 5Ks for different charities on Saturday mornings. He was running in the "Know More Orphans Five K" benefiting Altar84 in his final moments. Boscoe's most cherished pastime however, was spending time with his family.
The World lost a great man last Saturday, but his memory will live on in so many ways. In lieu of flowers, we believe Boscoe would have appreciated memorial gifts be made to the E. Boscoe Godfrey Memorial Fund, c/o UAMS College of Pharmacy, 4301 West Markham Slot 522-1A, Little Rock, AR 72205; or online at www.giving.uams.edu

Vicki, Graham and Brigham - please accept our heartfelt sympathy. Boscoe was my U of A pledge brother, Lambda Chi Alpha, 1974. I was so fortunate to re-connect with him and his wonderful family in Richmond Texas when Graham and our son competed in little league baseball and up through high school. We stayed in touch with that common ground when you moved to Alabama.
Boscoe was a great friend and I will always fondly remember our time together.

Boscoe was one of my first friends as we attended kindergarten together. He would often get down from his stick horse and enjoy "tea" and play dough cookies with us. Even then, he was a gentleman.
We met up again in Jr High. Because our school was small, we had the luxury of knowing everyone.....and Boscoe did. He had a gift of making people feel important and letting them know he was their friend. A special quality, indeed. He became forever friends with everyone.
Several of us would participate in assorted activities together. Some of them were playing tennis, going roller skating, on hayrides, to dances, bowling, finding haunted houses, talking on the phone for hours, going to the lake, watching the guys play various sports, and getting into mischief, all the time laughing. That's what I remember most.....laughing......Boscoe right in the middle of it all. We all had our fair share of broken hearts, as well, and we saw each other through them. In essence, we helped each other become the people we are today.....giving a little part of ourselves to each other. Therefore,I grieve deeply for your loss because I can imagine the precious man Boscoe was......for I know the man-child he was when we all went our separate ways.
I hope it helps to know that Boscoe will always have a very special place in all of our hearts.

He was far more than a great leader to all of us at CPS, but he excelled at leadership like he did in so many other things. He positively impacted every colleague he had contact with, encouraging, teaching, mentoring and maybe most of all increasing their passion for what we do, caring for individuals and their families. But Boscoe was much more than a colleague to many of us, he was a very dear friend, who's memory we will always cherish. He will be greatly missed.
