Ernestine Winston Anderson, 67, of Rochester Township, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 15, 2011, while under the compassionate care of the staff at Cranberry Place. She was born December 20, 1943 in Coalwood, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ernest Earl and Bertha (Collins) Winston. Ernestine was a graduate of the St. Francis School of Nursing, Penn State University, and earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College. She was currently doing Doctoral Studies with the University of Phoenix.
Ernestine proudly served her country with the U.S. Army as a commissioned Second Lieutenant; employed as a nurse at Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, DC. She retired as the Nursing Administrator from the Medical Center of Beaver County with over 30 years of service. Ernestine also served the as a substitute school nurse for the New Brighton Area School District.
Ernestine was a faithful member of the Second Baptist Church, Rochester where she served as a Deaconess, was a member of the Women's Service Guild, the Women's Fellowship and the Women's Choir. In her leisure, she enjoyed sewing and gardening.
In addition to her parents, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband Carl. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Carlette and Alan Whitman, Chesapeake, VA; Victoria and M.L. Jordan, Jr., Columbia, MD; four grandchildren: Lemar, Brandon, Bryce and Whitman and Leah Jordan; her brother: Ernest Winston, Rochester; her sister and brother-in-law: Jennifer Winston Cuspard and husband Phillip, New Brighton; three sisters-in-law: Geneva Hosey, Midland; Marion Anderson, Chicago, IL and Maxine Anderson of California; a host of loving nieces and nephews, particularly those who provided compassionate care during her illness: Tawana Sligh, Jordan Cuspard, Dennis and Marquetta Hosey and Phillip Cuspard, Jr., who is also her Godson.
A Home-going, Celebration of Life Service will be held, 11 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Second Baptist Church of Rochester, corner of Clay Street and Irvin Avenue, with The Reverend Jonathan Wilson, officiating.
Military Honors will be presented between 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum following her funeral service. Online condolences may be offered at www.saul-gabauer.com
