Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 12, 2014.

McLOUGHLIN, Ernestine Louise "Ernie Lou" (neeBuckley)

Passed away surrounded by her loving family in Charlotte, NC on August 9, 2014 at the age of 87.Ernie Lou is lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, James "Jim" McLoughlin; her children, Sandy Liles (Don), Louisville, KY; Nancy McLoughlin, Dandridge, TN; Michael McLoughlin (Liz), Harrisburg, NC; her grandchildren Wesley Liles (Ashley), Louisville, KY; and Katie McLoughlin and Kelly McLoughlin, Harrisburg, NC; much loved second cousins Kim Bredin (Dave), Niagara Falls, ON and Lisa Bredin (Harold), Cambridge, ON; and many friends who were blessed to know her.

Ernie Lou was born in Niagara Falls, New York in 1926 to Emma and Ernest Buckley of Niagara Falls, Ontario. She graduated from Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1948 and worked as a private-duty nurse until being swept off her feet by Jim. She loved her family, friends and books, often having 20 or more checked out from the library at the same time.

In addition to being the family photographer, she enjoyed (in no particular order) gardening, bird watching, wearing sneakers, ice hockey, Duke basketball, bargain shopping, following the most recent weather disaster, reading the tabloids, drinking Canadian Coca-Cola, Corgis and anything having to do with Queen Elizabeth and Great Britain. She will be remembered for her cabbage salad and awesome chocolate mousse pie.

The visitation will be held Friday, August 15th, from 6 to 9 PM at HETHERINGTON AND DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5176 Victoria Ave, Niagara Falls, Ontario.
The funeral will be held in the Chapel on Saturday, August 16th, at 12:30 PM with the burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

I am sorry that I wasn't able to be there at the funeral. She was truly a wonderful person who was generous, caring and funny. She opened up her home to me and made me feel like part of the family. I wil truly miss her.

Doreen Hawkins

The Hawkins family would like to send our sympathy to Jim and family. Ernie Lou was very special to her family near and far. Her infectious smile and laughter will always be remembered. Who could forget those family picture events in Cambridge when Ernie Lou was the last family member with a film camera. We treasure those brief visits to Charlotte where we were welcomed with open arms, hugs and kisses. Those memories will not be forgotten.

What a marvelous life she had and what a blessing she has been to her family and friends. I so enjoyed meeting her and seeing how much of her personality exhibited in Sandy as well! I want to offer my condolences to the family for their loss, but I know she will live on in their memories. I will keep you all in my prayers. Sandy, please let me know if there is anything I can do for you here in Louisville. From Faye & Glenn Kugele
