Estelle Johnson Hamby, 90, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2012, in Raleigh NC. Mrs. Hamby was born in Gadsden, Alabama on April 5, 1922. She was reared in Gadsden and Rome, Georgia. She is a graduate of Rome Georgia High School and attended King Business College, in Rome GA. She and Dame S, Hamby were married on January 20, 1943 and after a successful business career with the Trust Company of Georgia, she devoted her life to being a mother and wife. Mrs. Hamby was born in Gadsden, Alabama on April 5, 1922. She was reared in Gadsden and Rome, Georgia. She is a graduate of Rome Georgia High School and attended King Business College, in Rome GA.
She and Dame S, Hamby were married on January 20, 1943 and after a successful business career with the Trust Company of Georgia, she devoted her life to being a mother and wife.
Mrs. Hamby was a supporting and contributing partner to the career of her husband. She traveled extensively with him and was known throughout the textile industries of the world for her cheerful personality and her dedication to her family and friends.
She was an active member of the North Carolina State University Woman's Club and participated in neighborhood activities and served as an officer in the Garden Clubs in the community.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Dr. Dame Scott Hamby and a daughter, Mrs. Barbara Foell and husband D.B. Foell, a son, Michael S. Hamby and wife Dorothy Hamby and grandson, Scott Hamby.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday April 14 from 1:00–1:45 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, followed by the graveside service at 2:00 pm, at Raleigh Memorial Park.
