Iona Parrish, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 in a local hospital. Services will be held today, Thursday, at 1:00 p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy 277 South, with Mike Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Parrish was born in Winganon, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hine and Anna M. Shaw Patton on May 3, 1925. She had previously worked as a secretary at the Abilene State School. She loved her personal library focusing on holistic medicine. Iona also loved her pets and gardening and her favorite apple and pecan trees. She won first prize at the West Texas Fair for her pencil tree. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Goldie; her brother, Lenzy; and grandson, Jasen.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Parrish of Abilene; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Danny McQueen of Nalley, Alabama, and Vanessa and Pat Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Rosanna Dorough of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Iona's favorite scripture was Psalm 46:10 – "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

Granny, you will truly be missed. One of my favorite memories about her was talking to her on the phone. Even though I was an in-law she still wanted to talk to me and see how I was doing. It saddens my heart to know you are no longer on this earth but to know God is rejoicing in Heaven because one of his Saints has come home is comforting. Love you Granny!!!!
