Ethel Cataldo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2017.

Ethel A. (Healey) Cataldo, 95, of Fairhaven, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Joseph Cataldo Jr.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna (Dinn) Healey. Her father was a fisherman who brought his young family to Fairhaven to pursue his trade. Ethel graduated from Sacred Heart's Academy and Kinyon Campbell Business School. She was employed by Revere Copper and Brass and took great pride in her work there as administrative secretary to the company president.

Mrs. Cataldo was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Fairhaven. She and her husband were instrumental in raising funds for the construction of the new church building in North Fairhaven, and she taught for many years in the parish CCD program.

Ethel was very active in the community. She belonged to and was past president of both the Fairhaven Mother's Club and the Catholic Women's Club. She was also a member of the New Bedford Garden Club and the Beautification of Fairhaven Committee. While her husband served as a Fairhaven Selectman, she was privileged to travel to Japan as part of the town delegation that visited Fairhaven's sister city of Tosashimizu. Mrs. Cataldo was an avid bowler until the age of 94. She loved to tend her garden, enjoy the beach at Fort Phoenix, and spend time with her grandchildren.

Ethel is survived by her children, Patrick Cataldo and his wife Eileen of Ohio, Marylou Carvalho and her husband Frank of New Bedford, Roseanne Moniz and her husband David of Fairhaven, Donna Wooler and her husband James of New Bedford, Anne Marie St. Gelais of New Bedford, and Joseph Cataldo III and his wife Laura of Iowa. She is also survived by her sisters Eleanor Fanning of Fall River, Genevieve Cataldo of Worcester, and her brother Richard Healey of North Carolina. She was the sister of the late Kenneth Healey. Mrs. Cataldo was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 19 great grand children, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday August 9, 2017 from 4PM – 7PM at Waring-Sullivan at Fairlawn 180 Washington Street Fairhaven MA. We were so saddened to hear of Ethel's passing. It was only two months ago that mom and I were visiting Dick and Loretta and working on our family tree. Mom was so delighted to reconnect with her relatives.

The loss of a parent is never easy. A part of us is lost, our rock, nurturer, guidance, strength... But the parent planted the seed for you to continue on, now you are the rock, nurturer, guidance, strength... Ethel was a good planter, she did well, her family shows it. So glad we got to meet her and share with her during her many Ohio visits. To the entire Cataldo family, our Deepest Sympathies and Condolences. God Bless you all always. To you, our dear friends, keep your mom's spirit high in your hearts forever. Eternal rest grant unto Ethel Oh Lord, and perpetual light shine upon her, may she rest in peace, Amen.
