Ethel R. Derby 84, of Crestview Street, Keene, NH, died April 20, 2014, at the Applewood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester, NH. She was born in Keene, NH, February 20, 1930, the daughter of Amos B. and Inez E. (Champney) Castor. A lifelong resident of Keene, Mrs. Derby worked at the former Princess Shoe Company in Keene. She later worked in food services at Keene State College. She took great pride in raising her family and as a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook as well. She enjoyed country western songs and dancing, and sewing and quilt making for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her cats which were an...
Ethel R. Derby 84, of Crestview Street, Keene, NH, died April 20, 2014, at the Applewood Care and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester, NH.

She was born in Keene, NH, February 20, 1930, the daughter of Amos B. and Inez E. (Champney) Castor.

A lifelong resident of Keene, Mrs. Derby worked at the former Princess Shoe Company in Keene. She later worked in food services at Keene State College.

She took great pride in raising her family and as a homemaker. She was a wonderful cook as well. She enjoyed country western songs and dancing, and sewing and quilt making for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her cats which were an important part of her life. She was a former member of the Eagles in Keene and a member of the Keene Senior Center.

She is survived by her children, Linda French of Gilford, VT, Raymond Russell and his wife, Patricia, of Putman, CT, Robert Russell and his companion, Kathy Upton, of Hinsdale, NH, Diane Bittner of Brattleboro, VT, Thomas Neil of Jaffrey, NH, Michael Derby and his companion, Marcia, of Riverview, FL; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence A. Derby, Jr., who died October 4, 1984; and two brothers, Amos B. Castor, Jr. and Robert Castor.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11:30AM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene. Burial will follow in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30AM at the Foley Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Derby's memory to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, West Swanzey, NH 03446.
