Eugene "Gene" Linscomb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 31, 2016.

Eugene "Gene" Joseph Linscomb was born in Houston, Texas on the 11th of June 1959, and passed away suddenly on the 29th of May 2016, in Houston, Texas.

Gene spent his early years in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from Bridge City High School in 1977, where he was a star on the High School Golf Team. He joined the US Navy in June 1977 and was a Reactor Operator on the USS George Washington Carver nuclear submarine SSBN 656 until June 1983. Gene then attended the University of Texas and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Land Management in 1986.

Gene was proud to be a Landman and held positions of increased responsibility with Exxon (in Midland, TX, Houston, TX and New Orleans, LA), Continental Land & Fur Co., Walter Oil & Gas, Apache Corporation, Hess Corporation, W&T Offshore, and most recently with Rexpro Energy. He also worked for two years as a Right of Way Agent for the State of Alaska in Fairbanks. Gene was smart, hardworking, loved the oil and gas business and the many cherished friendships he made in the industry.

Gene met Chris, the love of his life, in 1998 and they married in Eureka Springs, AR in 1999. Emma, their beloved daughter, was born in 2005 and was the joy of his life, he could not mention her name without smiling. Gene loved to travel and the family will always cherish the wonderful trips they took together all over the world. Gene was passionate about many things, his country, Longhorn Football, Golf and his favorite place at the family farm in Willow Springs, Texas. He spent many special hours at the farm cooking for family and friends, riding his tractor and admiring his beloved longhorns. Gene had a special gift of being able to fix anything and he loved woodworking and building things himself. He had a big heart and a special love for any animal that needed a home.

He is survived by his loving wife Christina, and his daughter Emma Grace. He is also survived by his mother Barbara Emmons Linscomb of Spring, Texas and sisters Pamela Kiel of New Orleans, LA, Kimberly Shoemake and husband William Todd of Montgomery, TX, and Kelley Linscomb of Shenandoah, TX, and his nieces Courtney and Ben LeBlanc and children Reese and Blake of Mandeville, LA, Kelley Kiel and son Bryce Wilson and fiancé Blair Geiss of Coronado, CA, Sarah and William Kammerer and daughters Amelia and Helen of Moon, PA, Rachel Shoemake of Montgomery, TX, and nephew Oliver B. Kiel III of Austin, TX. Gene was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Choyce Emmons, and father, Ted Linscomb.

The family acknowledges with deep appreciation all the dear friends, family and neighbors who have been by their side, with special thanks to their Frostwood family and Dr. John Stephens and their family friends at Chapelwood United Methodist Church.

A memorial service is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 3rd of June 2016, in the sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston, where Rev. Dr. John E. Stephens, Senior Pastor is to officiate.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the Emma Grace Linscomb Education Fund established at Chase Bank Town & Country, 12802 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX, 77024 in care of Robin Mantor.

Served In Military Together

Bert Beaton

I served onboard the USS George Washington Carver with Gene as a fellow Reactor Operator. We were good friends and we played golf together quite often in Groton. When I got married in '82, we had a very small wedding and Gene was the only shipmate from the boat that was invited. In fact, he was gracious enough to take our wedding pictures with us being poor sailors and all. I didn't see Gene again until the late 80s when we had dinner together in Santa Fe. After that, we lost touch. I was thinking about him today and searched for him on the internet. And of course, I discovered this horrific news. Chris and Emma, I am so sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I served with Gene on the USS George Washington Carver. We were friends. I remember he was thrilled to be able to play golf at St. Andrews when we were in Scotland.

Almost a year later I have heard this sad news. I pray the year brought you, his Dear Friends and Special Family some Peace and Grace.

He was a very kind man with a big heart. I knew him when he was in the Navy and in Alaska. He was a true gem...I wish you all God's Speed...in the years to come...

Heaven has a special place for men such as Gene...for they are few.

Dear Chris,

You and Emma are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find strength from God, family and friends during this tragic time, and may good memories fill your heart.

Brenda (Voss) Tunnell

Chris and Emma, my heart is breaking for the two of you. We are all trying to come to grips with the senseless loss of such a dear man.
I met Gene in Midland. Rumors of a new Longhorn with a single digit handicap hit the land hallways before Eugene reported for his first day of work. The small city of Midland was the perfect start for all of us young, single landmen to begin working for Exxon. We all instantly formed a strong bond of helping each other at work and play. Gene was so much fun to be around and a loyal friend. He was by far the better cook!
The Memorial Service was a beautiful way to honor his memory and the stories told by friends and family all had the same basis that I remember - a good time, lots of laughs and a few beers.
I pray that your memories of Gene and the love of your friends, family and God will be with you always.

Chris,

So sorry. Barbara just called and told us the news.

We will try to contact you directly but you and Emma are always welcome to stay with us if you need to get away from everything for awhile.

I had the pleasure of spending a weekend duck hunting with Gene in Louisiana the winter of 2014. His stories regarding time in the Navy, family trips across the world and his ranch back in Texas were interesting to hear about. He even handed out some international travel advice which I was happy to get from him. In just one weekend it was obvious to me that Gene was one of the "Good Guys" and a real gentleman. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his loved ones. -- Paul J. Hebert ~ Lafayette, LA

Romans 5:1-5 RSV)

5 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have obtained access[b] to this grace in which we stand, and we[c] rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 More than that, we[d] rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us."

Chris, I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. May our Lord comfort you and Emma and wrap his loving arms around you during this time of grief where we yearn for answers of what we cannot comprehend.

May His Peace be with you.

Gene was a business partner and close friend to me. I was blessed to know him. I loved his dry wit, honesty, love of people and life, and work ethic. He loved his wife and daughter above all. He was a good listener and cared about others. He could be gruff, but underneath was very supportive and loving.

I am praying for him, his wife and daughter.

Dear Christina, I don't know your family but I grew up in the Memorial area and, today, I grieve with you for your immense loss. In addition to being your husband, Gene was a friend to others, a son, a brother, an uncle and, most importantly, a father. He left this Earth far too soon and my heart aches for you and your family. May God keep you, your daughter and your entire family surrounded with His light, enveloped in His love, protected by His power and comforted by His continued presence. And may you eventually find peace and comfort in the sweet memories you have of Gene.
God bless you and your family,

Chris - my heartfelt condolences. I haven't seen Gene for couple years but remember what a help he was to me (and you too)when I first came to Houston in early 90s and knew so little about the offshore land practices. Nothing could ever rattle Gene. Loved working with him and running into him at the industry functions. He will be greatly missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you and his family.
