Deacon Eugene O. Brown, 93, of Spring Hill, Florida passed away on Thursday, July 27th, 2017. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Gabil and Mable Brown on November 19, 1923.



He attended and graduated from the Central Colored High School in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1940. He attended college in Florida.





On July 6, 1947, he was united in Holy Matrimony to the Love of his life, Sadie Brewington Brown in Albany, New York. Rev. L. M. Forester performed the Ceremony at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.





Deacon Brown began working for the Allied Union International in New York in the mid 1970’s as a Business Representative. He advanced to become the Vice-President.





While living in NYC, he obtained the rank of Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Alpha Grand Lodge A.F. and A.M. of the State of New York.





He and his wife were snow birds from 1989-91 and they settled in Spring Hill, Florida in December 1991. Deacon Brown loved the Lord with all of his heart, soul and mind. He was always ready to impart a word of wisdom in his interactions with others. “His mind was as sharp as a tack”.



He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Hudson, Florida and was also a Founding Member. When the church was without a pastor, from October 1993 to March 1994, he led the congregation.



While at New Hope, Deacon Brown was the first Deacon and he trained others.



He also served in the following ministries: for three years he was in charge of Wednesday Night Bible Study , he was a member of the Senior Sunday School Class, Trustee Board, Sanctuary Choir, Constitution Committee, Committee Chair of the First Church Anniversary, Vice-President of Senior Missionary Ministry and President of the Senior Center. In the community he was member of the African –American Club of Hernando County and the NAACP. He was an avid golfer.



Whenever anyone asked how he was doing he would always say “hanging tough”.



He was a great inspiration to all who knew him.





Deacon Brown will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 + years, Sadie Brewington-Brown, his parents, his brother, Gabe and his nephew Leon. Eugene is survived by cousins; Lenora C. Hicks, Michael E. Hicks, James Hicks Jr., Jacqui Bruce-Yokoyama, sister-in-law; Charlotte E Daughtery, nephews; David Brown, Rudy Daughtery and Derek Daughtery, Daughters in Christ; Judith (Sherwayne) Phillip, Lena Dixon and Dianna (Raymond) Mitchem.





Visitation will be Friday, August 11th, 2017 from 7-8 p.m. at Turner Funeral Home on 14360 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34609. The Homegoing Service will be Saturday, August 12th, 2017 with a one hour visitation from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the service will begin at 12 p.m. The service will be held at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 14236 County Line Road, Hudson, Florida 34667.
