Gene was the Assistant Superintendent when I was hired as Superintendent of the Monroe School District in 1978. He was a great person who cared a lot about the Monroe community and schools. I wish his family the best and remember your father as a super human being who was very well liked and respected.

Mr. Elledge is how I remember him when he was the principal at Vale Elementary in Cashmere. He was kind and caring and he and Shirley were friends with my parents. We moved to Monroe in 1962 and then Gene and his family moved to Monroe a few years later. When my parents had life changes and we needed to sell their home it was Gene that helped us in that process. To all of the Elleges I am sorry for your loss and for you to know of the wonderful legacy in life that he left for you.

I will always remember Gene as a warm and friendly person. He made me feel like he really enjoyed talking to me, and I am sure that everybody he met felt the same way. I will especially remember him as an influential educator, and as a tireless booster of The Fair. I will always be grateful for the early career nudges he gave me. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. To all the Elledges - you have Duane's and my deepest sympathy.

Gene was a good soul, generous with his time and passions, and always a friend. He welcomed our family to the Monroe community and was always willing to support us with history and support. Our thoughts are with his loving family during this time but our memories will always be of Gene's constant smile.

I grew up in Monroe a friend of Gene's youngest son Darren. As a kid I was oblivious to some of my surroundings. It took until I became a head coach and facilitated a strong booster club, that I realized how important Gene was in my upbringing. Looking back there were three guys Gene Elledge, Lee Johnson, and Lauren Thompson that were our booster club. They not only supported their own kids, but all of the kids. Gene cared about his family, and community, and helped and mentored so many. He will be greatly missed, and I'm forever indebted to him for his caring about the community that I was fortunate enough to grow up in.
