Passed away September 28, 2012 at the age of 70. Gene was born in Sacramento, CA to Emilio and Olga Andreuccetti on August 8, 1942 and grew up in the Delta area, on Grand and Sutter Islands. He is survived by his wife, Mary Andreuccetti, daughters, Tracy Lawson (Terry) and Kelly Prudek (Fred); 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Gene graduated from Courtland High School (Courtland, CA) in 1960 and Humboldt State University in 1966 with a BS degree in wildlife mgmt. and range science. In 1966, he began a 32 year career working for the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), later named the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). From 1966-67 he held a number of conservationist positions for the agency throughout California. From 1977-81 Gene was Asst. State Conservationist for Washington State, based in Spokane, WA. During this time he served as Dir. of the National Resource Conservation Act Response Center in Athens, GA and also co-led the agency's emergency assessment team following the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens. While living in Spokane, Gene met Mary and they married in 1982. They moved back to Sacramento, CA where Gene served as the Deputy State Conservationist and later held the California State Conservationist position from 1982-88. From 1988-95, Gene's career took the couple to Washington DC where he served in various capacities including Director of NRCS's Conservation Planning Division and Assistant Chief for the South. Gene's final NRCS position (1995-1998) was a return to the Sacramento area, where he served as Regional Conservationist for the West Region.
Throughout Gene's life, he demonstrated a love for the land and its wildlife. This was reflected in his involvement in Ducks Unlimited and California Waterfowl Association (CWA), where he was an active life member. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many happy hours with friends and family in the great outdoors. As a much loved husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend, he will be deeply missed. Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Church, 660 Florin Rd. Reception to follow the service at St. Anthony Parrish hall. Remembrances may be made in his memory to CWA, 1346 Blue Oaks Blvd, Roseville, CA 95678 -Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger, directors

Gene helped me get the RC&D Coordinator position in NJ in 1987. We had the opportunity to meet just twice after that. He came to NJ as part of the State review process. As he always did, he was busy taking notes during my RC&D presentation. I stopped and asked him if I was talking too fast. He just waved his hand. I asked his group if they had brought enough pens and paper. My State Conservation looked like she would crawl under the table. But I survived the encounter, especially when Gene came up to me and hugged me. We then started our typical conversation.
We met next in St. Paul at the RC&D convention. Lola (my wife) and I entered the main hall. Gene looked up from the crowd of 'important' people he was in. He excused himself and came over and hugged Lola and I. We still remember the looks on the faces of those 'important' people. We then started our typical conversation.
Every time Gene and I met the conversation immediately turned to hunting and what shotgun we were using at the time. People thought we were talking about NRCS or some world shattering news. But it was our love of hunting that kept bringing us together.
Lola and I will keep Gene alive in our memorys.

I met Gene at Humboldt State while he and I majored in Wildlife Management. We had some great times over the years including while I livied with my family in Grass Valley and Gene was the District Conservationist. We enjoyed so many wonderful outings with Gene and Mary and shared many wonderful dinners and celebrations at each others' homes. We will ALWAYS remember those special times spent together.
In the many e-mails we received from friends and family, the central theme was that Gene was a caring, respectful man who cared more about how you were doing rather than his situation. He was a “real ‘gentleman.'”
AS many of you know, Gene loved to hunt and fish, but his passion was upland game and duck hunting and for many years Larry was able to hunt with him. Gene was like a brother to Larry and they had many great times and hunts together. Larry's last hunt with Gene was on September 1, 2012—opening day of dove hunting. Also there to enjoy this hunt were Wayne and Don Cortopassi, Rick Squaglia and Gene's son-in-law, Terry. We all had a great time hunting and going to breakfast at Whimpy's in the Delta afterward. This was Gene's last hunt and he was really happy that day even though he was having some medical challenges.
Gene was involved in the California Waterfowl Association (CWA). Due to Gene's great expertise in wetland conservation and wildlife resources the CWA appointed him as Director on the CWA Board and he won “Director of the Year” in 2006. We were privileged to be at that dinner and watch Gene accept his award.
Gene also was the chairman of the CWA Pocket/Greenhaven Chapter Dinner Committee for the past several years. He will be sorely missed. The upcoming CWA dinner on December 6, 2012 will be held in his honor/memory.
Gene was a wonderful, thoughtful, loving, caring, giving person. He was kind to all and again we say, what a gentleman he was! Many will miss him greatly, including the two of us. He was loved by all who knew him (family, work, hunting, etc., etc., etc.).

Gene was a fan of baseball and organized a tournament I played in. When it was over and the SO Boys lost, he generously provided the libations. I would run into him occasionally at a Stockton Ports game and always enjoyed talking to him. He was a fixture in the conservation community and a mentor to so many. I will always remember you Geno!

I am very sorry to hear of Gene's passing. I was employed by the old SCS and new NRCS for over 30-years. I can truthfully say that I never worked under a kinder, intelligent better liked person and Supervisor than Gene. I will always remember his kindness and tolerance toward all. My Prayers are with you.

"Gene's inspiration to everyone he touched made for richer lives. The cherished time I spent with Gene hunting will never be forgotten. Gene was my State Conservationist when I joined SCS. He was so approachable and went out of his way to shake your hand and talk to you. What an impression that made on a little teenager! He was truly a sincere and genuine leader, passionate conservationist and, most of all, a vivacious person that touched our lives and spirits. My heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Mary and the family.
