Gene L. Fattig, 91, of Plano, Texas and formerly of Connersville, died Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Methodist Richardson Medical Center in Richardson, Texas.

Gene was born in Connersville on Monday, May 28, 1923, to Eugene M. and Nina Quinzer Fattig. He was a 1941 graduate of Connersville High School. Gene married Shirley Sheldon on Monday, August 23, 1943 at the SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis. He served his country in the Army Air Corp during which time he flew fifty-four B24 Bombing Missions from Italy throughout most of Europe and was shot down twice. Gene worked as Director of Insurance for the American Legion. He was a member of St. Julie Catholic Church in Tinley Park, Illinois, and was a seventy year member of American Legion Post 1 of Connersville. Gene enjoyed playing the organ, smoking cigars, bowling and playing with his kids.

In addition to his wife of 71 years, Gene is survived by his daughter: Janet Cobden and husband Larry of Plano, Texas; his son: Gary Fattig of Houston, Texas; his daughter-in-law: Mary Fattig of Arlington, Texas; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents and son Terry.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon,Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, in Connersville, with Rev. Dustin Boehm of St. Gabriel Catholic Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with Military Rites by Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. Saturday until the time of service.

Through death our spirit leaves the body and ascends into heaven where past love ones are awaiting. May somehow we find peace in knowing that there're in a better place and that one day, we will see them again. In The Mighty Name of Jesus...amen
