Eugenie A. Connall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2014.

Columbia Psychologist

Dr. Eugenie "Jane" Connall passed away on April 5, 2014 after a long fight against breast cancer. She is survived by her loving husband Desmond D. Connall, Jr., her daughters Kristin and Caitlin, her father Thomas Case, and her brother Dr. Christopher Case. Dr. Connall was born in New York, raised in Darien, Connecticut, graduated in three years from Darien High School, and studied classical piano at the Manis School of Music in New York. She attended Manhattanville and Wheaton Colleges, receiving her B.A. in Psychology in 1976. She received her M.A. Degree from George Washington University, and her doctorate, summa cum laude, from Southern California University. Jane's love of life and willingness to help anyone in need will be sorely missed by her family, patients, and many friends. Jane's unique and exuberant personality left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Connall served as the President of the Mental Health Association of Howard County, MD, and was a Red Cross Crisis Volunteer. Services will be held at the Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road, Columbia, MD at 10am on April 12, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

My heart breaks for Dr Jane and her family and all those who knew her. She was so kind and compassionate, and would extend her hand well beyond her practice to comfort, help and guide those that needed it. She helped me immensely and I will never forget her and how she supported me through my personal trials. LN

My thoughts go out to Jane's family and her close friends. She helped me through a tough time for about a year nearly 8 years ago and she is one of those people you never forget because she is such a memorable person. Jane was genuinely kind, easy to talk to, and was someone you could always open up to. I now have a family of my own and I looked her up to see if she would want to catch up sometime. I was so shocked to see an obituary come up and my heart is broken... but she will surely be missed. I will never forget that remarkable woman.

I would love to get in touch with her family if possible. I do know she had two young daughters. Or possibly pay my respects to her site. Please let me know.

Jane was a dear and precious friend. We laughed a lot and we cried a lot. She was brilliant, compassionate and so loving. Her generosity is legendary. From Godiva chocolates to spa treatments, Jane was always giving. Because of her, I began going to afternoon teas at the Four Seasons and other exquisite places throughout the DC area. She worked for me as one of my Directors of an adolescent group home which she turned into a model program. Everything she touched turned to gold. The world has lost a special person, but her legacy will last forever. Special love to Des and the girls whom she adored. My prayers are with you.

I loved her. She will forever hold a place in my heart. She has helped me so much. She was a strong woman, that never let anyone see, any of the pain, or struggle, she was going through, but empathized, with everyone else's problems. -Kelly Streit

Jane was a rare jewel. I knew Jane for 10 years. She brought me from almost non-functional, to a place where I got accepted to a major university and moved to CA. When I sustained a serious trauma in 2010, Jane worked with me over the telephone. Jane was the person who suggested that I become a counselor in 2005- and I did. I found out that she'd passed because I called today to tell her about my board certification etc and the office phone line was disconnected. I wish that I would have had the chance to say goodbye, but her legacy will live on through all of the lives she touched- and we are so many. Jane, I miss you, I love you...

I am sending my deepest, heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Jane Connall. I knew Jane for over two years and will never forget her bright spirit, sparkly personality, wonderful sense of humor and huge heart. Jane knew all about the healing powers of unconditional positive regard, laughter and chocolate. I wish there had been a way to heal Jane, the way she healed others. I cannot imagine your feelings of grief and loss. Sending prayers of comfort and peace. Good-bye Jane! You will never be forgotten.

I am so saddened by the loss of such an amazing person, and I pray that her family can find peace knowing that her time with us was truly a gift from God. She blessed and changed the lives of so many people...for the better. Despite her illness, she NEVER stopped giving. She fought hard, and long, and always had a positive outlook no matter what the circumstance. I am a better person having known her and will carry her lessons with me always. Your legacy will endure Jane....Rest in peace. God bless you and your family now and always.

I'm so, so sorry Des! You and Jane were always so hospitable to me over the years, and I'd always appreciated it. I'm thankful that we all were able to connect and get to know one another. My deepest condolences to you, the girls and my Uncle Tommy. I'm also thankful that he and I managed to spend some time together the last time I came to visit. Please stay strong. You all have my love and support. Judy and I are here for you. Love, Cousin Nick

I am a former patient of Jane's and I am so sorry for your loss. She helped me in ways that nobody else could and was like a mother to me. Jane was a human first, and a therapist second - truly a unique and very special person. I am eternally grateful and plan on dedicating my entire show tomorrow to her memory. I can't imagine the pain you all are going through. She was loved by so many people. I will always think of her when I sit down at my piano. As she always said, "keep the faith" and the very best to you all.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Jane was my doctor for just over 7 years, but she was so much more to me than just my doctor, she was my friend and I will miss her more than I can express. Jane helped me survive the most traumatic experience of my life. I told her many times, I'm not sure I would have survived without her help. She was genuinely concerned about me and my well being. I enjoyed my sessions with Jane, we would laugh and sometimes cry together and she was never too busy if I needed her.

Again, I will miss her more than I can ever express. I send my prayers and sincerest condolences to her family, especially her daughters, whom I feel I know, though I have never met them. God bless all of you.
Xoxo (as she would always close her texts messages to me.)

Oh, Des, I was so very sorry to hear about your and your family's great loss. I remember "Euge" so well from all the many weekend visits she made to Charter and her presence with you at Reunions through the years. When I think of her, I recall most of all of her openness and cheerfulness. She radiated happiness and made everyone feel special and cherished. I send you and your family my very best wishes, and I hope you find comfort in one another.

Jane, I think you'd get a kick out of this: I take the National Counseling Exam the same day as your funeral. How's that for an example of the circle of life? Almost exactly 6 years ago, I came into your office for therapy, now I am becoming a therapist myself, all because of your support and mentorship. I'm not sure what I'll do now that my helper is gone, but I will keep your positivity and authenticity with me as a guide.

My condolences to all family and friends of Jane. I only knew her for a few years, and at a relative distance, but she changed my life. I can't imagine how greatly she must have impacted yours. My love to you all.
