Eva Elizabeth McGarity Ponder entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 10 after battling Triple Negative Breast Cancer for the past 7 ½ years. She was born on October 10, 1969 in Decatur, Georgia and resided in Lawrenceville at the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Stephen Ponder, and her dear son, Erik Ponder, both of whom she loved so dearly. She is also survived by her loving parents, Dr. and Mrs. James (Willa) McGarity; her dear sister Catherine Anne McGarity Harris (Hunter); her supportive father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Pat Ponder; her uncle, George A. Morford,; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Christopher and Allison Ponder, and numerous cousins and friends. She was the granddaughter of Robert and Jessie McGarity, and Thomas and Betty Morford all of whom predeceased her.
Eva was a graduate of St. Pius X High School and received her undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Education from Piedmont College. Her professional career included teaching positions at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parochial School, and Sophia Academy, and prior to her education career she was a drafting Associate with Day-Wilburn Engineering.
Eva was very devout Roman Catholic who, through her faith, was committed to offering up her suffering for the benefit of others. She was an outstanding individual who was always concerned about others and how she could impact them through her personal example. She will be greatly missed by so many who cherished her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 15, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Floral Hills Funeral home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Georgia 30084, with recitation of the rosary in the chapel at 7:00 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Saint Stephen the Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 5373 Wydella Road, Lilburn, Georgia 30047, beginning at 11:30 a.m. with interment at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Faith Section, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway; Tucker, Georgia following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, Eva's family requests that consideration be given to making a donation in memory of Eva McGarity Ponder to Saint Stephen the Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 5373 Wydella Road, Lilburn, Georgia 30047; to Saint Monica Roman Catholic Church, 1700 Buford Highway, Duluth, Georgia 30097; to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cancer Home, 760 Pollard Boulevard S.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30315; or, to The American Cancer Society, 2405 Sugarloaf Parkway, Lawrenceville, Georgia 30045.

Eva Ponder was such an amazing person. She truly did care about others and never let anyone down. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and cared about her. She was an inspiration to many people. She made me realize so much about the world and other people around me. I'm so sorry for your lose.

I was blessed to teach with Eva at Immaculate Heart of Mary School and to get to know this precious lady. She had such a sweet spirit. Her courage was an inspiration to all of us. I am so saddened by her loss. May knowing that she is now resting in God's loving care bring comfort to her family. My prayers and Sympathy to each of you.
