I had many English classes with Evan at USC, covering literature, creative writing, and rhetoric. He was brilliant in each diverse class and was always so thoughtful and encouraging toward other students. He also took great pride in his military service. Evan was a wonderful friend and classmate to have. I'm grateful I was able to know him, hear his thoughts, and read his writing for a few short years. Thank you for your service, Evan. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family who raised such an upstanding man.

Evan was a memorable English student because what he wrote meant something to him; he was not just writing another essay; he was expressing his thoughts, winning an argument, analyzing text. Daily, I enjoyed his presence in my classroom and am thankful that he was my student. Prayers for his loving family and friends--now and for the days to come.
