Evelyn Ann Ferrara (nee Strittmatter), 84, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 30, 2015. Evelyn was born in New York City on December 19,1930; the second child of Oliver and Agnes Strittmatter. As a young woman, she attended the Berkeley College in New York. In 1953, she married her beloved husband Dominick G. Ferrara. After raising their family in Eastchester, New York, Evelyn and Dominick moved to Monroe, Connecticut in 1991. In addition to her husband of 62 years, Evelyn is survived and missed by one sister, Anne Bowne (John); three children, Ellen Ferrara, Nancy Pompa (Richard Jr.) and Thomas Ferrara (Kathleen); three grandchildren; Danielle Pompa, Richard Pompa III, and Lindsay Ferrara Renstrom (Daniel); one great-granddaughter, Lucy Grace Renstrom; several nieces and nephews, and her dear friend and neighbor Anita. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, and one brother, John Strittmatter(Patricia). Evelyn loved spending time with her family and was happiest outdoors. Those close to her remember her as a joyful gardener and golfer, who enjoyed regular trips to Cape Cod and Vermont. A woman of faith, Evelyn was always sustained by her beliefs and her church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Jude's Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe, Connecticut. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Calling hours will be Monday, April 6th from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike in Monroe, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Evelyn's name be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 275 Union Avenue, Bridgeport, CT 06607.
