Obituary

Evelyn Herndon was born in Dallas on February 26, 1913 to Monroe W. and Rossie E. Robertson. She died on August 22. 2014 aged 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rossie R. Jones and Mary Katherine Ray and brother M. Wayne Robertson, her husband of 45 years, Dr. James H. Herndon and grandson James Tatton. She is survived by her four children and their spouses (James and Miriam Herndon, Gayle and Robert Allison, Carol and Robert Lindholm and Ann and John Tatton) together with twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She grew up in Dallas and except for the years of World War II (when...
Evelyn Herndon was born in Dallas on February 26, 1913 to Monroe W. and Rossie E. Robertson. She died on August 22. 2014 aged 101. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rossie R. Jones and Mary Katherine Ray and brother M. Wayne Robertson, her husband of 45 years, Dr. James H. Herndon and grandson James Tatton. She is survived by her four children and their spouses (James and Miriam Herndon, Gayle and Robert Allison, Carol and Robert Lindholm and Ann and John Tatton) together with twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She grew up in Dallas and except for the years of World War II (when she moved the family 11 times within 4 years) resided here all her life. She graduated from Sunset High School and with honors from the University of Texas at Austin.


She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home and did so beautifully. She was a long time member of the Dallas Country Club, The Dallas Woman's Club and the University Park Methodist Church. She played bridge with skill and zest and became an accomplished amateur painter. After her husband's death she qualified as a real estate broker and participated in managing a complex portfolio of investments.


Visitation will be at Sparkman Hillcrest on Friday, August 29, from 5 until 7.
A family service celebrating Evelyn's life will be on Saturday, August 30, at 2:00 at the University Park Methodist Church, 4024 Caruth Boulevard, after burial at Sparkman Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the Visiting Nurse Association, Office of the President, 1600 Viceroy Drive, Suite 400, Dallas, TX 75235, or the charity of your choice.
