Everett Augustus "Papa" Carter of Turner, Me. died peacefully at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's "Hospice House" in Auburn Me., at the age of 72, on August 1, 2014 with his loving wife, Norma and family at his side. Born on February 6, 1942 in Rockland Me. to the late Everett A. and Lorraine Grotton Edwards Carter. Raised in Rockland, Everett was well known as "Slim" by his friends and co-workers. Everett Augustus "Papa" Carter of Turner, Me. died peacefully at Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice's "Hospice House" in Auburn Me., at the age of 72, on August 1, 2014 with his loving wife, Norma and family at his side. Born on February 6, 1942 in Rockland Me. to the late Everett A. and Lorraine Grotton Edwards Carter. Raised in Rockland, Everett was well known as "Slim" by his friends and co-workers. He worked at Stanley's Garage and was a proud volunteer fireman with the Rockland Fire Department. After moving to Lisbon Falls, Me., Everett worked for many years at Snow's Tire Retreading Company. Upon meeting his wife Norma, he moved to Turner, Me. Everett enjoyed playing an electric 6 string guitar, his passion for listening to country singers such as Hank Williams Sr. Hank Snow, Johnny Cash among others and his favorite female country singer Tammy Wynette. During the height of the CB Radio craze, Everett was well known as "Retread" and made numerous friends. Man's best friend, his late Black Lab named "King" was his loyal devoted bubby, was always at his side and was loved beyond measure by Everett in return. In addition to his loving wife Norma and her children, which he adored and loved, are: Theodore S. and his wife Mary Gammon and their children Liza and Richard, Wayne and his wife Vivian Gammon and his daughter Erika Kim, Norman and his wife Brenda Gammon and their children Amanda, her fiancée Dana Hall and Matthew his wife Beth and their children Alex and Leena, Larry Gammon and his daughter Toni and her significant other Garrett their daughter Clole, and Elaine Warner-Stedt and her husband Jerry, her children Chelsey Warner and her significant other Tristan Landry and Forest Warner. His adored and much loved children of his former wife Helen Mylen: Deb (Colson) her husband Carl Bernier, Elaine Colson, Chuck and his wife Susan Colson, and Jeffrey and his wife Hope Colson and 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren . Everett's loving sister, Betty J. Carter Grey and her companion John Harrick of Norwalk, CT. and her children residing in CT: Barbara L. Grey, Richard Grey, William and his wife Dana, and Robert and his wife Jan all of whom loved their Uncle Everett more than words can express. 1 great nephew and 1 great niece. Predeceased by 2 half brothers, Lewis Edwards and late wife Flora, their children of whom loved their Uncle Everett dearly, Lewis and his wife Shelia, Lugene and her husband Larry Jackson, Kathy and her husband Roland Flaherty and the late Robert Edwards. 4 great nieces and great 2 nephews. Everett's big heart, kind nature and contagious laughter awarded him with a lifetime of great wonderful friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed their visits and conversations and will be forever remembered by all whose lives Everett touched. Everett's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to his wonderful doctors who have treated him over the years, all the nurses and staff at both St. Mary's Hospital and Central Maine General Hospital. A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff members and the wonderful volunteers at "Hospice House". Visitation Fortin Auburn Wednesday August 6, from 10 AM - 12 PM. Funeral will follow at 12 Noon at the funeral home. Committal will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Sumner. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to Norma Carter, 7 Gammon Rd, Turner, Me 04282, to help off set medical expenses.
