Everett Burton Mendenhall III, died Friday, May 3, 2013 at Carl Vincent VA Medical Center in Dublin. Graveside rites were held at 2PM Tuesday, May 7, 2013 in Palmetto Cemetery with Rev. Spencer Johnson officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers.Born September 22, 1947 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Everett B. and Margaret S. Mendenhall, he was a longtime resident of Brunswick, GA, and was the great grandson of Wiley Newton Jones and Minnie Margaret Brinson-Jones of Waycross, both Wire Grass Pioneers of Georgia. Mr. Mendenhall had a strong sense of loyalty and devotion to his family and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.While attending Titusville High School, Rett was given numerous awards and recognized for his exceptional abilities in math and science. Following graduation, he attended Brevard College after which he enlisted in The US Air Force as his dream was to follow in the footsteps of his Uncle Joe Soyars II.Rett was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ. As a young boy, he was baptized at Ridge Crest Baptist Retreat in North Carolina. In his teenage years, he was active in Royal Ambassadors, and the Baptist Training Union.After a lengthy battle with cancer, our dear brother, uncle, and friend has passed on to be with his Lord and Savior in his heavenly home.Survivors include his sister, Kathleen M. Mumford and husband Galin of Richmond, TX, a brother Mark Mendenhall and wife Kimberly of Brunswick, a sister, Laura Mendenhall of Winston-Salem, NC, and several nieces and nephews, Jason Houser, Kathleen Houser, Matthew Mumford, Aaron Mumford, Elizabeth White, Andrew Mumford, Wylie Dryman, Amanda Dryman, Sarah Mendenhall and Jacob Mendenhall.
