He grew up in Ridgewood, New York. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was present during the attack at Pearl Harbor. During World War II, he served as a radio operator on a bomber in the Pacific theatre and was awarded several medals for his service.

It was my and my husband's good fortune to have met Mr. DAlauro. At that time, my husband and he spoke at length about his experience in WW2. My husband left with great admiration and respect for him. He was well loved by his tight knit family. Our thoughts go out to Dina and the rest of the family during this most difficult time. Dr. and Mrs. Uchino and family.
