Ferdinando D'Alauro Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2016.

Ferdinand was born October 5, 1923, the son of Filomena and Angelo D'Alauro. He is the last surviving sibling of 4 brothers, Amadeo, Peter, Alfred and Angelo, and one sister, Lilly. He grew up in Ridgewood, New York. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was present during the attack at Pearl Harbor. During World War II, he served as a radio operator on a bomber in the Pacific theatre and was awarded several medals for his service.

After the War he worked as an air traffic controller in Rome. He returned to New York City, where he married his wife, Dini Beri. He worked as a Customs Inspector in New York City before moving to Miami in 1971 and, ultimately, moved to West Palm Beach in 1974. After retiring from the Customs Service in 1982, Ferdinand enjoyed travelling, dancing, reading, and volunteering at the Noreen McKeen nursing home and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Riviera Beach.

He was always available and willing to help friends, neighbors and family. He will be remembered as a loving father, a dedicated husband and an all-around good guy-a man who was loved by all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dina, his son Frederic D'Alauro, M.D. (Anne Shields), his daughter Marlene Rizzolo (Robert Rizzolo), grandchildren Alice and Samuel D'Alauro, Blake and Hanna Rizzolo, his devoted niece, Mary D'Alauro, nephew Alfred and wife Veronica, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Nov. 13th 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Howard-Quattlebaum Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, Nov. 14that 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assissi 200 W. 20th Street, Riviera Beach, FL. 33404.

It was my and my husband's good fortune to have met Mr. DAlauro. At that time, my husband and he spoke at length about his experience in WW2. My husband left with great admiration and respect for him. He was well loved by his tight knit family. Our thoughts go out to Dina and the rest of the family during this most difficult time. Dr. and Mrs. Uchino and family.
