Finis Turner, a 60 year resident of Houston, went to meet his heavenly Father on Wednesday, the 19th of February 2014. He was born at home on the 15th of February 1924, in Franklin County Texas; the youngest of nine children of Rev. Allen Turner and Susan Dora Shirley Turner.

He also had a half brother and sister. Finis was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Elsie Williams Turner. He is survived by his daughter, Sharon; and by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was a member of Houston's First Baptist Church for over 55 years. Finis worked for Dresser Industries for 35 years, where he was a valued member of the research chemistry department. He holds 4 US patents, and was past president of the Clay Mineral Society of America.

Finis constantly sought after knowledge, and was a true Renaissance man - farmer, soldier, scientist, inventor, husband, father, active church member, teacher, dabbler in languages, music lover, voracious reader, home handyman, gardener, and avid motorcyclist. He held a multi-rated private pilot's license, and was a private flight instructor for many years. He read through the Bible several times in his life. He also had a deep appreciation for cafe' latte, and was a well known figure at many Starbuck's near his home. Finis was known for his gentle nature, wry (and sometimes esoteric) wit, and his snappy style of dress. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank Davita Dialysis at Reliant (for giving him 5 good years we might not have had), Vantage Hospice and Top Notch Healthcare.

A memorial service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 1st of March, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where Rev. Rick Jones, minister of pastoral care at Houston's First Baptist Church, is to officiate

In lieu of customary remembrances, for those desiring, memorial contributions may be directed to Houston's First Baptist Church, 1010 Lamar St., Houston, TX, 77002

Micah 6:8 (KJV) He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
