Biography

It is with great sadness that the family of Florence "Flossie" Evelyn (Castle) Adams, announce her death on March 23, 2013, her 87th birthday. She died peacefully at the Heartland Nursing Home, where she and her husband Bill had been living. Flossie was born in Peoria, on March 23, 1926. She was born to Charles and Helen (Wierschem) Castle. She graduated from Manuel High School. Flossie leaves behind her beloved sister Mary (late Vernon) Leaver. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Vernon Castle and Thomas Castle. Flossie and Bill met at the Madison Theatre, where he later became manager. They were married in Peoria, on July 29, 1944. Flossie was the loving and beloved mother of five children: Kimberly (John) Post, Kerry Adams (Doug White), Lesa (Jeff) Collier, William Robert “Rob” (Tammy) Adams II and Bradley (Barb) Adams. She was the awesome Grandmother of ten grandchildren: John (Kathleen) Post, Cameron (Niki) Post, Timothy White, Kenneth White, Justin Myles, Corey Collier, Evan Adams, Hailey Adams, Jordan Adams, and Jeremy Adams. Flossie also loved her four step-grandchildren: Justin (Shana) Moody, Chance Moody, James Bray, and Victoria (Grant) Moore. She was the great-grandmother of: John "J.P." Post and Victoria Post, and Jamal, Riley, and Niveah Myles. She was the step great-grandmother of: Bellamy Bray and Madalyn Moore. Flossie was born in Peoria, on March 23, 1926. She was born to Charles and Helen (Wierschem) Castle. She graduated from Manuel High School.

Flossie leaves behind her beloved sister Mary (late Vernon) Leaver. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Vernon Castle and Thomas Castle.

Flossie was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church and School. Throughout the years, she held various board positions with The Mary Martha Society and The Holy Family School Board. Florence was president of the Peoria Catholic Women’s League where she modeled many times for the Women's Club lunches.

Flossie was active in many community activities including the Lakeview Museum's gift shop, and the Wildlife Prairie State Park gift shop. Flossie was a member of the Mount Hawley Country Club and TOPS. Flossie, Bill, then Peoria Mayor Jim Maloof, and his wife Trudy started and worked diligently on the St. Jude Telethon, on WEEK TV.

Flossie traveled extensively and never met a stranger. She loved to entertain family and friends.

Flossie will be greatly missed by her husband Bill, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Her passing leaves a hole that will never be filled.

Visitation will be held at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel, on March 27 from 5-7 pm. There will be a funeral service at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 28, at the Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Parkview Cemetery.
