Obituary

Florence (Nana) B. Hlavaty passed away quietly and peacefully at her home on February 10, 2014, two days short of her 94th birthday. Nana was born on February 12, 1920, in the tiny town of Schertz, Texas. Her father was George Bolton and her mother was Ida Hensel Bolton. Florence graduated from high school and business school and worked at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio during World War II. She then joined Motors Insurance Company (a subsidiary of General Motors), working as a claims adjuster until her retirement. Florence (Nana) B. Hlavaty passed away quietly and peacefully at her home on February 10, 2014, two days short of her 94th birthday. Nana was born on February 12, 1920, in the tiny town of Schertz, Texas. Her father was George Bolton and her mother was Ida Hensel Bolton.

Florence graduated from high school and business school and worked at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio during World War II. She then joined Motors Insurance Company (a subsidiary of General Motors), working as a claims adjuster until her retirement. After retirement, she was a welcome and valued volunteer at Park Plaza Hospital for many years, and enjoyed traveling to many places she had always wanted to visit.

Nana was predeceased by her parents, two husbands, and her oldest child, Earl Godwin. She is survived by three children from her first marriage: Sandra Rackley of Houston, George Godwin of San Antonio, and Judy Godwin of Camden, Maine, and two children from her second marriage: Sonja Novo of Houston and Carol Christensen of Willis. In addition, Nana was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Florence will be held at Earthman Funeral Home in Bellaire on Monday, February 17, at 1:30 P.M. Everyone attending the memorial is invited to attend a reception at the funeral home following the service.

The family is very grateful to Houston Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
