Floyd Edward Allen Jr.
September 1, 1928 – December 29, 2010
Floyd Allen Jr. passed away December 29, 2010 at Better Living Assisted Care Home, he was 82.
Floyd was born on September 1, 1928 in Pueblo, CO from the union of Floyd E. and Mae Claire (Gottbehuet) Allen Sr. He spent his childhood in Gunnison, CO and graduated from Gunnison High School in 1947 and later attended college in Ft. Collins, CO.
Floyd was an honorably discharged veteran serving in Korea in 1950. He met Frances Joyce Childers in Pheonix, AZ after being introduced by his cousin Velma Lee. They married in 1953 and three children were born from this union.
Floyd was a farmer and rancher by heart. He started farming in Peoria, AZ working with cotton and citrus and later sharecropped lettuce. The family moved to Gateway, CO in 1966 and then to Fruita in 1973 where he owned his custom hay-hauling company.
Floyd spending time with his kids and grandkids, many enjoyable times were spent going to the rodeo or the horse races.
Floyd leaves behind his wife Joyce Allen of the home, two sons; James Edward (Leaann) Allen of Tumcumcari, NM and Billy John Allen of Palisade, CO, a daughter; Juddah (Cass) Raine of Loma, CO, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VA Home Based Care Program.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Martin Mortuary.
