Floyd was born on November 21, 1927, in Houston, TX and spent his childhood years in Smithville, TX. He joined the navy after high school and later went on to form a business as a commercial artist with his twin brother Lloyd Burns. After the business dissolved, he pursued his passion for painting and craft full time. He won multiple awards at different art shows. If he could imagine it, he could create it. He joined the Houston's First Baptist church where he met and married Lynda Barnett. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Michelle.

A graveside funeral is planned for noon on Friday, August 15, 2014 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery at 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service.
