After a year-long battle with colon cancer, Floyd Harvey Faust, 80, of Brunswick, Georgia passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, July 6, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.

Originally from Leesport, PA, Floyd graduated in 1948 from Ontelaunee High and served four years in the US Marine Corps (1949 to 1952) reaching the rank of sergeant. While in the marines, Floyd signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates and came to Brunswick, GA in 1953 to play professional baseball with the Pirates' farm team. While playing with the Brunswick Pirates, Floyd set many records including the all-time league single season record for the most stolen bases with 76. In 1954, he was ranked in the top 5 baseball players in seven (out of ten) of the league's offensive categories. He was inducted into the Minor League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. Floyd's baseball career was cut short due to a shoulder injury; however he remained in Brunswick and worked for Metropolitan Life as an insurance salesman until he retired in 1986. Many in Brunswick will remember Floyd as Player/Coach of the McDonalds softball team.

Throughout his life, Floyd dedicated his time to serving his community in various ways. In 1963, he joined the Exchange Club of Brunswick and dedicated 48 years of service to the club and to the youth of Glynn County. One of Floyd's primary projects was the Exchange Club Turkey Shoot which he ran faithfully for 46 years in a row. In addition, he personally started, stocked and ran the petting farm in the Brunswick Exchange Club Fair for the past seventeen years. Since 1995, Floyd has also represented the Exchange Club and entertained crowds as the "Scoopie & Poopie Clown Team" in the annual Blessing of the Fleet parade in Darien, GA.

Floyd loved life and lived it to its fullest. He was a devoted family man and a special friend to many people. He loved to joke around and he was always there to help anyone in need. He especially loved his hunting and fishing and shared many years of this with family and friends. Making Deer Jerky and sharing it with everyone was a favorite past-time. Affectionately known as "PopPop", we will treasure our many special memories of Floyd and he will live forever in our hearts.

Floyd is survived by his wife, Mikki Faust of Brunswick; his five children, Kerry A. Faust of Roswell, GA, Kathy Faust (Blake) Bunnell of Jacksonville, Kurt S. (Tammy) Faust of Jacksonville, Kristi Faust (Louis) Woeller of Jesup, and Shannon Marie Faust of Brunswick; his nine grandchildren, Christopher Myers (Amber) and Chad Myers, Alicia Faust (Davey) Howard, Ashley Faust (Kevin) Bullard, Anna and Kolby Faust, Cody and Bailey Bunnell, and DJ Faust; his four great-grandchildren, Jayden and Madison Myers, Paityn McCormick and Parker Bullard; his five sisters, Betty Strause, Leesport PA, Mildred Faust, Hamburg, PA, Arlene Haas, Fleetwood, PA, Edith Dreibelbis, Shoemakersville, PA, and Jane Greusel, Leesport, PA; three brothers, George Faust, Shoemakersville, PA, Clyde Faust, Fleetwood, PA, and Clair Faust, Longwood FL. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Clifford, Fresno, CA.

Edo Miller Funeral Home in Brunswick is in charge of arrangements. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Christian Renewal Church of Brunswick. Pallbearers will be sons Kerry and Kurt Faust, grandsons Christopher Myers, Chad Myers, Kolby Faust and great-grandson Jayden Myers. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Brunswick Exchange Club.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Moran and staff, Dr. Mattox and staff, the Oncology staff at Southeast GA Health System and Heartland Hospice for the loving care and attention they provided to our beloved Floyd. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to the Floyd Faust Memorial Fund at the Exchange Club of Brunswick, PO Box 567, Brunswick, GA 31521.

"Floyd "Dynamite" Faust was an extraordinary man. Daddy had such a kind loving spirit and he would make anyone feel welcome. He did not judge or condemn for..." Boom-Boom Faust (Brunswick, GA)
