Forest Allman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2010.

Forest E. Allman (December 18, 1924 – November 23, 2010)
A mans measure could be any number of things....
Forest's was – Brothers: the late Donald (Iris) Allman; "Mickey" Edward (Barb) Allman; Sister: "Sis" Virginia (Sambo) Connors. Sons: Terry L. Allman; Dennis K. (Sandy) Allman & Daughter: Toni J. Allman. Grandchildren: Tom Allman; Wendy (Dan) Sorensen; Troy Allman; Ashley Allman; Jeff Freihiet; David (Michelle) Freihiet; Teresa (Gary) Marut; Shannon (Jon) Cowell, Brent (Amber) Allman; Nicole (Chris) Mora, Doug (Nikki) Mantueffel; Shane Mantueffel; Erin Mantueffel & Danny; Mishelle (Gabe) Villagomez. Great-Grandchildren: Kayla Allman; Sophia & Thayer Sorensen; Nicole & Mia Freihiet; Terry Evans; Caleb Cowell; Alexis & Haley Mora; Izik Bassinger, Majestic & Austin; Charisma & Issabella Villagomez.
Forest was the oldest son born to Homer and Iva Allman. He grew up in the Temperance and Toledo area. He attended Bedford Public Schools and graduated from Scott High School in 1942.
He worked over forty years in the grocery business for Bellman's grocery, Big Bear grocery, Foodtown Supermarkets, Merek's grocery and Chatham Supermarkets. The friends he made during his working years are treasured memories. Those friends served as "family" during the long hours they worked together. He enjoyed many of his friend's baseball games after work and on weekends. He relished the hunting trips with his work friends also. He retired in 1983. "Way to go Dad! We should all have 37 years of retirement!"
He met the late Mary Jo Moore in 1952. They married in 1954. Their three children are Terry, Toni and Dennis. They have fourteen Grandchildren and fourteen Great-Grandchildren.
Forest spent every Fall season cheering for his "Michigan" football team. He was a season ticket-holder for over thirty years. He became friends with those he met at game day parking, tailgating and those he sat around. The stadium staff greeted him warmly as he entered the stadium gate and again at section 34. He also attended Rose and Outback bowl games.
He was the ultimate "giver", a loyal man, a great Dad, Grandpa and Great grandpa, a friend to all that took the time to know him. Those that disagreed with Forest…he simply let them go on their way. Whether it be over politics, religion or football. He said, "there was just no helping some people."
He was asked shortly before his passing, what he thought heaven would be like…he said without hesitation and with much gladness, "BEAUTIFUL". We went on to talk about who he was looking forward to seeing in heaven. He said, "some people will be looking for me". We said, really? He said, "yea, they have been waiting to get even with me". We chuckled!
Forest touched many people's lives. He will be greatly missed and greatly cherished for all he did for others.
Visitation will be at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, (419)473-1301, on Friday, November 26, from 2:00 pm-8:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin Saturday in the funeral home at 10:00 am. Condolences may be emailed to www.birkenkampfuneralhome.com
