METZ, Forrest Logan
70, husband, father, grandfather, engineer, entrepreneur, rancher and friend died peacefully and unexpectedly on the morning of October 7, 2016 in Tucson, Arizona.
As a child of a prospector father and an entrepreneurial mother, Forrest made a positive mark in the community as a third generation Tucsonan. His tenacity, curiosity and steadfast commitment to friends and family shall be remembered.
He enjoyed the many freedoms of growing up in Tucson: exploring the Sonoran desert with his father; riding wild burros on endless journeys with friends; building useful objects; and eventually engaging the heart of his lifetime companion, Kim.
Forrest attended Pueblo and Catalina High Schools, and graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree. After a successful experience as a civil engineer and planner, he founded his own firm, Urban Engineering in 1974, which remains Southern Arizona's leading independent civil engineering, planning and surveying company.
As a restless entrepreneur he built other successful domestic and international ventures in various industries. As a pioneer in cellular telecommunications in the 1980's, he served as President of Celutel, Inc. and oversaw its listing on the American Stock Exchange.
Amongst his contributions to the community, Forrest served as a past board member of the Arizona School Facilities Board, Educational Enrichment Foundation, Arizona Mexico Commission, Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, United Way of Greater Tucson, Southwestern Fair Commission, and Pima County Fair Horse Racing Commission. He was also a member of the Tucson Airport Authority, University of Arizona Foundation President's Club; and served as the past President of the Mountain Oyster Club and Los Charros del Desierto.
Forrest's immediate family includes his wife, Kim; his two children, Forrest Metz Jr. (Annalise Moser) and Jenifer Metz (Andrew Flores), as well as grandsons, Wilkie and Quincy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Logan Metz; mother, Celia "Sally" Metz; brother, David Metz and is survived by his sister, Harriet; nephews, Michael (Matthew), Logan, Steven, nieces, Lori and Erin (Ryan), and numerous cousins and extended family.
Forrest shall be sorely missed and remains deeply loved by his family and friends.
A Viewing is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 East Grant Road, in Tucson. My deepest sympathy to Forrest's wife and family. I came to know Forrest
as a member of the Pima County Horse Racing Commission. I was just talking to him a couple of weeks ago as we were making plans for next years horse racing season in Tucson. He was very proud and happy about his new grandchild and of course had the pictures to show. He was a man that really cared about his community and I am proud to say I was one of his many friends. He will truly be missed, please let me know if I can help in any way.

A life well lived give credit to our creator who made us in his image Genesis 1:27. It is no wonder that we thirst for life to realize or dreams and to go on adventures. Soon, our creator will provide an environmental in which no longer cry from the pain of death. My sincere hope for the family.

Dear Kim, My heart is heavy for you today as you prepare to make this difficult journey of saying good-bye to your man, Forrest. In my mind, Forrest was joyful & generous with both himself and his resources. We who graduated from Catalina High School were touched with his generosity over and over as he helped to make our 50th reunion a success. I have the best photo of him with his big five gallon hat, his black and white 'cow' apron, flipping burgers for all of us at Ft. Lowell on our last day together. Not just generous but fun as well. This is far too early for him to leave his good life.
I will remember a fine gentleman, successful, kind, loving his family! He showed me photos of his family, including his beautiful wife, Kim, his kids, his son, who was far away, and his grandchildren. His son because I was his teacher for a short time and he knew I would be interested in Forrest Jr. and his successes. He was a proud father and husband. Forrest was a lovely man. I will miss him and the joy of life he shared with me.

As part of The Parent Connection family who can't be there in person, I am there in spirit to honor a wonderful champion of what is good and right in this world. Forrest's love and support of TPC was unfailing, and made some of the rough times smoother. And, his support of Kim in her role as our director was deep and caring. We will not soon see his like again. I will miss him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your whole family, Kim. I remember Forrest as being a real gentleman. He always dressed so well, and carried himself in a very upright, dignified manner. Yes--I would say he was quite dignified--a wonderful way to describe a person in this day and age. He will certainly be very much missed.
