The Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Mary mourns the death of Fr. Joel Daniels, O.F.M. Cap. who died on January 8, 2015 at Saint Clare Friary, Yonkers, New York at the age of 76. Fr. Joel was born in Brooklyn in 1938. He attended St. Patrick Grammar School [1944-52]; Bishop Loughlin High School [1952-53]; St. Leonard Academy [1954-55]; and Boro Hall Academy [1956-57] all in Brooklyn, New York. From 1957-58 he also attended St. Mary Seminary, Garrison, NY. Fr. Joel entered the Capuchin Franciscans in 1958; pronounced perpetual vows in 1963 and was ordained to the priesthood on September 23, 1967. Following ordination he ministered as an associate pastor at St. Michael, Brooklyn [1967-68] and St. John the Baptist, New York City [1968-1982]. For the next seventeen years [1982-1999] his primary ministry was caring for his aged mother who resided in Brooklyn. Father resided in St. Conrad Friary, White Plains, NY [1999-2000] and later ministered as a parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist Church, White Plains, NY [2000-2007]. He joined the senior friar community of St. Clare, Yonkers, New York in 2008. Fr. Joel was survived by his brother John Daniels, his sister-in-law Margaret Daniels of Larchmont, NY and his niece Joy Daniels-Bueti of Accord, NY. Viewing and a Wake Service will be held at St. Clare Friary, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703 on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, NY 10703 on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the Community of St. Clare will gracious accept donations in memory of Father Joel for the continued care of our senior brothers.

Dear Sweet Fr. Joel! We met on the Feast of St. Maria Ghoretti. I will never forget your kindness to me or our friendship. May Our Lord give you peace! You were an exemplary priest. Pray for us!

I fondly remember Joel from our seminary days and the early years of priesthood. No more worries or tears, dear brother, only the tender embrace the Triune God. Pray for us!
