Lived two doors down from Mrs Goodwin on 47th Street in Fairfield & went to same church. We moved in 1968 but my mom & grandmother stayed in touch through the years. I can't help but think of Mrs Goodwin every time it rains. She gave me an umbrella for my high school graduation. I'm sure that my 18 year old self wasn't as grateful for the gift as I should have been as it laid amongst "flashier" gifts and folding money. However, that first cold, rainy, late October morning with a cross campus walk looming, my appreciation grew when I looked in my back seat & saw that umbrella. I'm glad that I was able to relay this to her in person a few years ago. I teach a 9/10th grade boys Sunday school class at my church now. When those young men graduate, I give them an umbrella with a card relaying this story. Every so often I'll get a note of thanks for an umbrella, a note Mrs Goodwin had a part in.
