Frances Smith Appling, 97, of Fite Street, Cartersville, Georgia passed away August 4, 2012. Mrs. Appling was born, February 8, 1917, a lifelong resident of Cartersville, the daughter of the late, Henry Lee and Alice Jo (Bishop) Smith. She was retired from Goodyear Mills, was a past member of the Cartersville B&PW and was the oldest member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Appling was born, February 8, 1917, a lifelong resident of Cartersville, the daughter of the late, Henry Lee and Alice Jo (Bishop) Smith. She was retired from Goodyear Mills, was a past member of the Cartersville B&PW and was the oldest member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Reece Appling, her son, James L. Appling and four brothers and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Smith.
Surviving is her daughter in law, Theresa Appling, grandchildren, Dr. Connie Appling-McSwain, Cindy and Tom Farmer and John and Jennifer Appling, all of Cartersville, four great-grandchildren, William McSwain, Chris McSwain, Thomas Farmer and Cathryn Farmer, great-great-grandchildren, Keirsten, Landan, Joel and Lilly Kate McSwain, sister-in-law, Lois Jones of Decatur, nieces and nephews,Patsy and Jerry Tibbetts, Henry and Diane Smith, Ken and Joann Topham, all of Cartersville, Pat and Joe Underwood of Conyers, Terry and Jan Appling of Tucker, Karen Appling-Gonter of Avondale Estates and special nephew, Tim Abernathy.
Her family would like to recognize with extreme gratitude her Fite Living Centre family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. Don Hattaway and Rev. Chris McSwain officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00-7:00 P.M.
Pallbearers will be John Appling, Tom Farmer, William McSwain, Henry Smith, Jerry Tibbetts, Harry Childers and Chris McSwain.
Contributions in memory of Frances may be made to the Missions Fund at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
